Hardwood floor care tips: area rug & pad, felt pads, how to clean
Comments (4)We are getting our 20 year old hardwoods refinished right now because they are trashed! Here are the "really" bad things we've noticed. Do not push your furniture across the floor! It will leave gouges. Buy tons of felt protective pads in all different sizes and put them on EVERYTHING. You also need to replace them frequently and keep the pads clean (if there is any grit or dirt on the pad the protective pad turns to sandpaper). Put an area rug under the sink/DW and water dispenser to catch drips (and shake and clean under rugs regulary so no dirt is trapped under them). Our kids have plasma cars and they have destroyed the floors so I would say no wheels at all on the floor. Don't push that piano! Swiffers or dust mops are great and help keeping it clean....See Morea felt pad challenge for the TKO
Comments (10)Our chairs came with a little plastic 'bump' on each leg too. The delivery guys had sheets of quite large felt feet and they installed them on one of the chairs as a demo then left enough to do the remaining 7 chairs. The felt covered the entire bump then attached to the flat wooden bottom of the leg. They were not that thick so were quite flexible to cover the bump and mold to the flat leg bottom. Maybe larger felt would work for you. (As an aside, we have used the Magic Sliders with good results on other tables, chairs, etc. and decided we wanted to stay with those so I ended up popping all of the plastic feet off and using the sliders instead.)...See Moreprotecting hard wood floors from stool/chair legs
Comments (16)Yes, I confess, I am a closet clean freak. I try to pretend I am not but really I can not help it. I don't love to clean, I just can't relax if I walk on a floor with even one tiny little sand grit on my foot. Even with college roomates I was the girl cleaning at 3 am. While everyone was passed out drunk. I was raised this way. You should see my sisters. We all scrub our floors on hands and knees. No one walks in our homes with shoes on. Every night before bed I wipe down the floors in the kitchen. Maids quit with me they don't get fired. : ) I must be from a long line of cleaning ladies... When I gave birth to my first child, my mother and aunts arrived. My husband was shocked to find one aunt scrubbing the sidewalk in front of our home. She bleached the steps and walkway. It was then DH realized that he married into a family of clean freaks. Sorry to go off topic. I guess this is why the felt pads work for my floor. Or maybe it is me working for the felt pads. > Boxerpups (Yes, I chase dog hair like the rest of the world)...See MoreFelt pads or how to protect hardwoods
Comments (5)We did purchase them from Amazon. As we moved each piece back in, we applied the felt. I wish the felt came in different thickness since my son doesn't standup when scooting the chair around. Ugh!...See Moreannzgw
