It's probably not exactly the same but in our house the wainscoting is painted the same color as the wall / trim above.

In this picture you can see it in both our dining and living rooms.

I don't have a photo but we painted both areas cream - a lighter shade above and a darker one below (BM Philadelphia Cream and Dunmore Cream).

Our room isn't that small, but with furniture, 3 windows, french doors and the doorway to the kitchen, there's not much wall space.

Our paint colors are one shade different from one another - I did not want high contrast but did want them to be a little different -

Do you want the paneling to fade away? Or be a feature in the room? I believe painting it the same color will make it fade, whereas painting it a slightly lighter or darker shade (like laurainlincoln did) will make it a feature in the room.

Thanks, all for the photos. Cearbhaill, your photo is closest in terms of showing the same kind of paneling. And I do like the less contrast-y look of having the colors be the same or close to the same.

I guess I am wondering about how the paneling will look painted Split Pea green, though. I'm fine with it "fading away" but something in my mind is telling me that paneling painted pea soup green is going to have an unintentionally 70's vibe that maybe I am not going to like...

Okay, then take a look at the color that is one or two shades lighter than your split pea green. It won't be white and it won't be as vibrant as the upper color.

Here's my "before" dining room with a chair rail and the room painted all once color. We recently painted the lower half glossy white and added trim moulding. It makes the room feel a lot cozier.

Painting the area below the chair rail lighter than the color above the chair rail makes a room appear smaller. To enlarge a small room paint the area above the rail slightly lighter than the color below.
I would not paint it all split pea....but paint the bottom slightly darker.

I don't like the lighter shades on the Split Pea range, so maybe I need to look at another color altogether. It took me about six months to decide on Split Pea, though, so who knows if I can find another color...
