The shower is fine ... the stripes aren't.

I was in a shower at the Bellagio, and even though I was alone in the bath, I felt very exposed as the glass went down to the floor. For my personal comfort level, I put our glass at above boob height. It feels good to me. It also added wall space to add the heated towel bar.

I do take outdoor showers which is open to all God's creation, and that doesn't bother me though. Crazy I know. But there it is.

I can't put my finger on it, but I just don't think I like it, even apart from the stripes. Maybe its the chopped off corner that I don't like.

I am just wary of this big hunk of glass plopped down in the room. I thought maybe having some wall surfaces to "vintage-ize" with beadboard would help.

The glass thing on the left is a giant popcorn maker, and just off camera is the ice cream counter and lollypop display. It just needs bent wood bistro chairs to complete the look.

On the whole, not up to mtnrdredux standards.

I can see everyone's point about the glass at waist or boob height - but in my opinion, this doesn't speak vintage to me.

One way to get around this, perhaps, is to stick with a glass enclosure and really focus on the tile and fixtures to acheive the vintage look you want. More cost effective than your original idea - and the tile and fixtures will be the stars, if you will.

Your first shower post, with the paned glass, would not lend itself, again IMHO, to a true vintage tile arrangement - it may be a tad too busy. But that's just how I see it.

I love this look - while the doors are sleek - the tile is front and center - and I love how the floor goes right into the shower.

I agree, Janice, at this point I am leaning toward encaustic and hex, and glass as simple as possible. I thought a knee wall would help but it doesn't. I think the best best is to choose a distinctive retro tile and hope the glass disappears. The existing room has very nice heart pine floors, so only the shower will be tiled.

You and me both, Chispa. We close Friday and have a second meeting with the contractor during the walk thru. We are trying to start right away and do everything all at once. It is all-consuming.

Honestly, glass? I can't tell you how MANY times I've patted myself on the back for selecting a glass shower door through which one cannot see or be seen. The kids (teenagers) will open the perimeter doors to the bathroom and yell in with their question(s). Similarly, as they hog my shower, I will often do the same. Lovely to not have to worry about being seen. The see through shower does not appeal in the slightest. Similarly, tub must be large/deep enough to afford any necessary privacy :)

The privacy thing doesn't bother me at all. I think it would if we were sharing bathrooms, but the feeling of light and openness trumps. To me, the privacy, if needed, can start at the bathroom door, not the shower itself.

Mtn, etched glass might be a nice vintage look for your shower. It lets in lots of light while maintaining privacy.
