wall and trim colors to complement dark floor

Hi,

I have an open concept first floor (kitchen/dining/living), with the living room having double ceiling (18'). My floor is dark walnut hardwood. The same wall paint will be used in the whole first floor, plus big parts of the 2nd and 3rd floors (because of the double ceiling, all these walls are continuous).

I had one designer recommend white down (CC-50) for wall and cloud white (CC-40) for trims. Another designer is recommending Wickham Gray (HC-171) for walls and Gray (2121-10) for trims.

I'm really torn, the first look gives a warmer feeling, but it's still a very light palette. The second look has drama, but feels cold and industrial.

I need help. I'm looking for sleek but cozy :)

When I see gorgeous dark flooring I can't help but see Candice Olsen's fabulous silver blues paired with them. You might want to go to HGTV's site and check out some of her room designs. I know she pairs other colors with the dark wood, but of the top of my head I can only see the blue right now.

No offense, but those colors you posted are "boring" big time, especially with a dark floor. That's just my unprofessional opinion. LOL

I love Candice Olson work and I do remember her blues, but for some reason I cannot find any nice pics on the website.
I was hoping to use the blues as accents, just because as I mentioned, painting the whole first floor blue, plus big parts of second and third floor (all continuous walls) is daunting :)
The wickham gray is kinda bluish when it's on the wall, you can see it between the set of windows and the doors.
I'm afraid the blues will give the house a cold feeling.

It is near impossible to suggest a color trusting monitors…but I will give you a color to look at with the off-white trim, as that’s a lot of trim to paint white. Try this color on the wall (two coats). I think you need a color with more brown in the mix: B.M. Silver Fox. Silver Fox is a great backdrop for you gray upholstery (which is probably why the now gray walls are fighting with the furniture.)

A dark color will soften the “harsh” brick…less of a contrast. I would paint everything gray. Just one gray, but two sheens….an eggshell for siding and a gloss for trim and garage door.

If you're keeping the dark walls, use warm white cabinets with a solid white quartz countertop, maybe incorporating some green into the back splash. If you're painting the kitchen walls, you could use a grayed green or olive green on the cabinets, with a white countertop, to coordinate with the rest of the greens in your house.
