another curtain conundrum

i was all set to order sheers for my breakfast room when dh decided we should do the master bedroom and guest room first. he is KILLING me. doesn't he know i have to come up with a decorating PLAN before any window treatments go up? rather than argue (again) i do have colors in mind, and also something of a plan. sort of. but i will hold off on the curtains and just work on shades. by some miracle, he doesn't have a problem with this, bless his heart.

i always wanted to do a sheer roman shade. privacy isn't really an issue since the house is far from the street -and the (future) draperies will traverse. but i'm confused about where the top of the shade should start. i prefer to have them align up near the ceiling or just below the crown. but.

take a look at my windows:

and this is the type of shade i would like to use:

actually, this is the color palette, and will have the room repainted. but notice the wall space above my windows. i just don't think the sheer shade will work out for me ...or will it? i really, REALLY want them, but i need direction. i don't want to use any kind of woven shade (where the wall space wouldn't be as noticeable). it's just not my vision for the room. so what say you?

the drapes will be problematic enough, because of the bump out and crown. i think i'll need to hang them from the ceiling. idk. i'm completely paralyzed here.

and please don't pay attention to the view. that's the old house that is due to come down soon ...very soon!

I would do like the inspiration picture and hang the roman shades up by the ceiling, just below the crown. Those will mount to the wall. Then you can get the traverse rod that will be in front of the roman shade. You will most likely want to mount that to the end walls.

I'd suggest that, even if you don't buy the drapes now, that you buy or at least decide on all the drapery hardware so you can engineer the project properly the first time.

I love your bedroom!! I can't help you though, except to say don't take privacy for granted. I live in the country and we've had people show up late at night, they either broke down or they were drunker than a skunk and hit a tree and needed to use the phone. :)

You should have double studs next to the window trim so install your brackets next to the trim, or within that vertical area. Then extend the rod on each side to the length you want. Once the drapes are up, you won't know where the brackets are, unless you have really large, decorative ones. Of course, doing this won't allow the drapes to open beyond the window but I would prefer this over not hitting a stud. I would try to put the center support bracket on the wall. If you mount it on the trim it's going to throw off the depth of the end brackets. Plus, I think it'll look better on the wall. If space is a problem, you don't have to use the same bracket (that's on the ends) for the center. You may want to use one that is less visible. Since there should be a header across the top of the window, hitting wood won't be a problem. IMO, you really need to hit a stud with the type hardware you intend to hang.

Thank you all for the recommendations, i dont want to hide the view, i just thought about adding another panel on the side of the door that is empty and leaving it open like the other 2 panels. But i think i should leave it the way it is.

I wonder how it could be address if I altered it. If it was a regular curtain, It would have to lie perfectly while the curtain was open (so the alteration would have to extend well into the curtain) and might show a large gap of they're drawn. If it was a Roman curtain that's altered with a gap, I guess that's a little easier. Having said all that, I was thinking that I don't entirely mind if it doesn't close all the way. Maybe I should do Roman blinds and just not close them all the way

I'd never heard of these, but they come up easily when you search for them, unless there was something special about the one you saw. I'm not a fan of glass enclosed showers and love having a curtain I can throw in the washer. It's barely noticeable when it's open, the shower is fully visible and NO glass to clean or squeegee after every. single. shower or water spots to look at/deal with. I thought these look really nice. But unlike in your inspiration picture, your wall space above the window will be visible through the sheers.

In the pictures, I've found, they are either just above the window and/or the window is almost ceiling high as in your picture.

What if you pin a white sheet up and see how you like it? It also depends on the wall color how much it will show through.
