Plastic patio chairs painted and decoupaged. Wanna see?

I posted this over on the paint forum because they had helped me over there, but I thought you might like to see it too.

After I painted my house trim I decided to tackle my two ratty old plastic yard chairs. The only other choice was to put them in the land fill and I didn't want to do that. Fact is, I LIKE plastic chairs. They're super light weight to move around and you don't have to worry about them in the weather like you do the good stuff.

A tip of the hat and big thanks again Arjay and Lazygardens for the tips and encouragement. You're the best!

Here they are, lightly sanded with a little sanding block. Pretty ugly, eh? I advise sanding first if the surface is not smooth. It was quick and easy because the plastic is soft.

Arjay, your great tip on using exterior primer and house paint enabled me to match the house trim which I think was extra nice.

The decoupage helped cover some of my painting imperfections (should have prepped better with that sanding block). After the Mod Podge, each chair got four very thin coats of gloss water-based spar varnish.

Painting the body was fastest and easiest with a foam brush because you can push-pull and do side-to-side strokes to spread the paint thinly and smoothly.

Foam was a bad choice for the varnish as it flaked a bit and left tiny black dots. I quickly changed to using a real paint brush.

I didn't get to the bench yet, so it's a project for later.

So don't throw out those old plastic chairs, friends. Paint 'em! Make a booboo in your paint? Decoupage over it! I mean seriously, if they look bad now what do you have to lose? Hope some of you will do this and post pics.
