I have balanced beige and tony taupe by SW in my house. They might look good with your floor. I like all of the colors you have tried besides the two that look too blue. Edge comb is probably my favorite of your samples. It seems to have just a hint of taupe to mix well with your floors and might be a bit warmer. Good luck and please show after pictures.

You guys are the best! She read your suggestions/comments/recommendations and I I am happy to announce that our little miss will be residing in a .........(drum roll please) Stonington Gray room!! DD did say it had a very slight blue undertone with the blind open but she is quite pleased with it. It is going to look even better when the furniture arrives this week and all the bedding and accesories are in. She is two hours away so all I have seen are cell phone pics, but I think it looks great. Kate and Jterrilynn - you are so right - the surrounding environment (light, trees, etc) definitely affect color. I will see if she can post a picture when she gets the room finished. She is much more tech savy that her mother :).

you do need to get a couple of samples... not 10 samples- that's when it gets expensive and overwhelming! paint chips should help you narrow down the shades-- look at them at different times of day in your room. then based on your favorite chips in that room pick up maybe even just one sample- try it and figure out what you need based on that color-- lighter, darker, bluer, grayer, etc. I have found that to avoid a pastel, baby-blue look for very light blue-gray colors, you really need to go with a color chip that looks more gray. the silver mist color that I used on my bedroom walls looked like a lightish gray blue with a hint of green on the chip--- the blue is much more prominent when up on the walls- the green and even the gray less so... but the shade was just right for that room. if you got a color expert, you still would probably want to get a sample or two (or three/four)- they can't see color through your eyes... and, they can't make you like a color! I have a friend who used some sort of expert to choose her paint colors on the main living area- it looks very nice, but my friend was still not happy because the colors weren't really what she had envisioned.....

Is it possible to pick a white for cabinets and trim without knowing your wall color yet?! My countertops are Caesarstone Nougat and my appliances are white! Yes. The countertops and appliances are major components in the overall "envelope" of the space you're creating. Use those as the benchmarks for choosing a color of white for the cabinets and trim throughout the whole house. To make it easier, just use the same color on the cabinets and trim. I'd use the countertops for the #1 component to determine which color of white is the right one. Appliances second most important. Becuase odds are the appliances will be replaced way before the countertops. The cabinet color/countertop color relationship is more important and more permanent. If you have a well-color-coordinated envelope of major/permanent elements, it will be a harmonious foundation to build on and it will also inform your furniture and decor choices going forward.
