It wouldn't seem to fit the mood of your room, imo. I picture it more in a really funky setting.

I like DP sofas, but not sure if the scale is right for your sun room. Can we see what you have now?

I love it! Since the wood is painted anyway, what about re-painting it navy to tie it into the chairs? If it were me, I think I'd buy it and do a major re-tweak of the room around it, with a different window treatment, lush designer print remnant cushions--maybe some navy toile?--and a brighter rug perhaps...It doesn't have to be expensive if you sew. Even if you don't, no-sew window treatments are a snap.

Ooh, I can just see that sofa in my living room...if you don't buy it, may I have it??? Pleeeeze?

Here is an old picture of my antique settee with 100 pillows on it before I redid the room. It is just a few inches longer than the DP one is. In a local shop there is a loveseat DF with an coral and cream sunbrella fabric reupholstered perfectly but it seemed too small for the room even though the room is sooo narrow and it cost more than double. Looks like I need to keep searching

Baroo, I hope if I do not get it you do! It is such a fun piece! I had thought of black paint for the frame but navy is a good idea too. Part of my concern is that the sunroom is open to my living room so it all needs to flow together and I am not sure this piece will work with the whole openness of my house:( . There were doors on the sunroom at one point for there are hinge marks and a hinge in the floor but they were long gone when we moved in but maybe I can add them back:).

One look at that sofa and it immediately brought Mackenzie Childs to mind.

Does that mean too playful? I like Mackenzie's tableware but not sure about her furniture. It might be too colorful for my modest home:).

Did you sit on the orange one in the shop, and is it as comfortable, or more so than your current one? I ask as the seat cushion looks a bit thin and not what I'd expect to see.

Are you happy with your current one's comfort and size although it needs repair and re-upholstering?

When you say, ' I wish the frame were not painted but the price is low so I can live with that. Not sure I can live with the color though.' How would you address the frame color, and how would you handle upholstery that you say you are not sure you could live with? Is it possible that the time and money you might possibly have to put in the low priced orange one would come close to the estimates that you have had for the current one?

I couldn't live with the way the frame has been painted either. I don't care for the light color with the fabric, as it just doesn't relate. What color is the welting? I liked the suggestion of a deep navy color, and would use a gloss to bring out the carving I see on the front . I'd then find or make pillows that relate the frame with the upholstery color. Painting the frame would take a careful touch so as not to get paint on the welt or fabric. I'd carefully use masking tape on all of it.

Would you be buying the fabric for the current one to be re-done? What is your ideal fabric? I ask that because I just got this email below from Barn Fabrics, with the majority of their fabrics on sale for $3.99 a yard. Some of their fabrics aren't exciting, but they have many that are recent or current, and you can get wonderful buys.

I know how exciting it is to see a low priced item that you're drawn to. I like to find ones on CL, but I buy them with the intent of re-doing them. It almost seems as that is what you'd need to do with this one, as you don't care for the frame painting or the fabric.

I wish we could see a better pic of your current one, as it looks beautiful. Have you looked at all local shops who would repair and re-upholster it? Good luck!

Roarah! Pocket doors! Just kidding, I see your point--flow is such a buzz kill, isn't it? When I was a kid,y mom was into diy long b4 it was "cool" due to a shoestring budget and her love for several worn antique family pieces...she took an upholstery course and stripped/restored/recovered a sofa very similar to your DP...my mom wasn't super smart or talented, she just didn't have the gene that tells normal people "That's too hard, call an 'expert'!" And these days with so many tutorials on the net, all you need is time, determination and the right tools, materials. Just a thought...: )

The welting is black. I have not sat on it so it is a risky purchase. It is in North Carolina and I am in CT. My thought was to carefully paint the frame glossy black to work in the welt. My quotes for my sofa were including fabric and to rebuild the sofa where in the 2500 park. This quote did include a very expensive mohair silver velvet. I should look into using my own fabric as a less expensive option:).

I am not sure it is worth the expense on this piece. I like it but it is a bit fussy in design. The space, at present is a play room. Behind the settee are thousands of toy:) Not sure I want little tikes jumping on my expensive redone antique sofa in the near future. The orange settee is only $390 plus shipping.

Roarah, I like the DF, but I LOVE your antique sofa. IMO, going from your current lovely antique to the DF option would be a serious step down.

Do you have any consignment shops in the area? We have a wonderful one called Finders Keepers and they often have lovely pieces for a song. If you can see it in person you can give it the fanny test because you don't want uncomfortable seating at any price.

If it's comfortable, and if that's a loose cushion on the bottom ... redo just the cushion in an orange and navy fabric. Paint the frame navy.

Have you looked on craigslist? I frequently see redone Duncan Phyfe sofas on the DC craigslist. I personally do not care for the one you posted at all, especially in your house.

Have you checked out more than one source in your area for repair and reupholstering your own gorgeous sofa, unless it is not comfortable...I agree with holly-kay that going with the one you posted looks like a step-down....the style of the one youhave seems to fit so well.

Baroo, I think I am passing on the orange sofa so if you are interested in it I will post the link on the bottom of this post. I will try a few more quotes in my area and I am going to try and use fabric I source myself, thanks Mythreedogs for the great link!
My present settee is very comfy I just never liked the fabric which is in great condition for I think it was newly reupholstered when I grabbed it at an auction for 50 big ones:) ten years ago. Since than a spring or two has popped so it needs new guts too I think but it has been well used in the room since my DD was born 7 years ago. I think we have since than used this room more than any other.
Thank you for all the feed back and I am sure in the coming days I will be asking for options on fabric choices or on new sofa options. This room is taking me forever I started looking for sofa options many months ago and then decided to look into reupholstering but the quotes were high so I was not sure it was worth it but the scale is right for this room.
