Continuation of Kitchen Update - Need help with Finishing Touch
Comments (19)I think it looks really nice. Good job, not easy being brave! White subway tiles - I would be afraid that white would make your lower cabs and white cabs seem like one big white wall. Maybe not, but its something that occurred to me and I'm not sure I'd like that. I was wondering about your counters, not the color so much but what IS the strip thing in it? What are your counters made of? If this is some sort of sandwiched in material that can't be painted then I would think you are "stuck" with the green right? I'm not personally (who cares!) a fan of the blue you are thinking about but it would technically look nice with the brown, I don't think it goes with the outside greenery though or the forest green stripe. If it were me, I would bring in the gold color from down the hall instead in a material that also has some forest green and maybe some rust, a plaid or floral for the window treatments. Then do some placemats, dishes, table runners, table top treatments, chair pads (not all of them!), with the forest green and maybe some more of the window treatment fabric to tie together. I think that would work better with the lush greenery you see outside. Frames - Several options. If you did the matting right with the black frames your pictures might appear to "float" on the wall. Which could be sort of cool, a slightly more modern look, personal taste in whether you like that or not. You could keep the black frame which essentially disappears, and mat with white, then a skinny black and then white - so the black mat then becomes the black frame, now highlighted. Or you could try to match frames to your lighting hardware (is that oil rubbed bronze?) but you might run into the same problem of it being too muted against the brown. Or, you have some stainless steel things, you could complete that by painting your wrought item wall hanger things and basket stainless steel with spray paint and go with silver frames. Really, you could quite a lot here. I think white frames would be a bit much for me but I think one or two large substantial wood painted white frames might work, just not a lot of little pictures in thin white frames. Even if you stopped now it looks nice. Keep everyone updated! P.S. If privacy is an issue with those windows, I really liked my solar shades, you can hide them with a valence. And they come in something similar to a goldish color....See MoreContinue My Kitchen Granite or Quartz as Backsplash?
Comments (10)My sister's kitchen was reno'd by the previous owner maybe 10 years ago, and she chose to continue the quartz (I think) up the wall, so not a brand new thing. The stone is a black with little blue sparkles that reads more jewel tone than solid black. It's pretty. My sister has owned this home for about 5 years, so I've had many chances to see how this look wears over time. In the beginning, I absolutely loved it. Then it was nice, and now I'm not sure if I'd do this. It's not restful for the eye and it is the only permissible wow! in the room. I think a lot has to do with the configuration of your kitchen (hers is a galley with counters on one side and a pantry wall on the other) and the amount of light. I think what I don't love about my sister's is that the room is narrowish and even with counters and backsplash on just the one long wall + the stove on the adjacent wall, it seems closed in. The PO also installed a really skinny island (24"?) down the middle which provides much need work/landing space, but also adds to the slightly claustrophobic feel. I'm going with dan1888, a lot would depend on the configuration of the room. I'd also add that a light stone would probably work better than a dark one, and a quieter stone vs a dramatic one....See MoreKitchen Reveal continued!
Comments (4)Thanks you! I knew my backsplash had to be marble to tie gray cabinets to white countertops. But finding the marble tiles for the backsplash was a challenge! I kept ordering samples and even they didn't match one another! Was told time and again I needed to order 30% extra in order to get color I wanted (white). That was not happening. Then I Googled "white marble Carrera subway tiles" and up came <carreratiles.com>. I called and ordered 6 sample tiles. When they arrived, they were perfect. I called back and asked what the chances were that an order would look the same. She checked the dye lot and said they would - didn't need to order extra to color match and they were very inexpensive! Shipping was by truck and delivered to my KD's store (curbside delivery - that wasn't happening at my house). I could not be more pleased and the company was a delight to work with - knowledgeable and so pleasant. Can't say enough good things about them!...See MoreKitchen update with new refirgerator, continued!
Comments (1)I like it too. it blends in the size of your kitchen instead of sticking out like a stainless would be. In your specific kitchen I think you made a great choice. Congratulations!...See Moremtnrdredux_gw
