I love your drapes and the room is just so pretty. I don't want the furniture but I love the style of the room and would like to bring the rest of it into my room. I like the floral concept of the room. I wouldn't paint the walls navy because I find the room light and airy now and would not like to see it become dark.

It's very charming as it is. I agree, I wouldn't go darker on the walls.

Really beautiful. Length looks fine to be, but that is one of those teeny things that can drive someone nuts who does care. I admit I don't care for the look where drapes are gathering on the floor.

Are you going to paint the room? Yesterday I painted one wall of my LR in BM Lenox Tan. With my low pine ceiling and no direct sunlight, I was worried about it being too dark. In fact, not only is it not too dark (it's probably similar to what you have on your walls now in that regard), it is absolutely stunning! It is rustic yet elegant. I can't wait to do the rest of the room and curl up by a fire with a book or TCM movie wrapped in the warm tan.

I think it would be great in your DR with those drapes and your furniture.

Tibbrix, the color on the walls now is Quincy Tan, very close to Lenox Tan, both from Benjamin Moore. Both are great and easy to live with!

Ah! I thought it was wallpaper, and it looks green in most of the pics. That explains why I thought of the Lenox Tan! I looked at the Quincy Tan as well, but it seemed very dark.

I am LOVING this Lenox Tan and believe your curtains must be great with the Quincy Tan.

Jjam, I am in love with your gorgeous dining room. The drapes are absolutely stunning. I love navy but I wouldn't use it in your room. Your room is so elegant the way it is, don't fiddle with perfection.

Thanks so much everyone. I am pleased overall with how the drapes turned out. I will likely keep my older drapes, which are a copper colored silk, and use them depending on the occasion. When I saw the fabric I immediately thought of using the fabric in my DR so it would brighten things up for the summer. I still kind of feel that way; the fabric is more summer-y and a little more casual, so when I want to lighten and freshen things up a bit it will be nice to have that option.

With a neutral wall color, it's kind of nice to have a couple of different sets of drapes when you want a completely different look; no mess, and it's done in a matter of seconds!

One more question; what about trim on the drapes? A vertical braid/stripe in a solid color? No fringe, just an accent stripe??

If you are thinking of adding a trim be careful that you don't start entering overload territory. If you are thinking of doing that maybe a colour that transcends your curtains and wall colour.

Transcends is the wrong word but I didn't want to use the word "tie in" either because the curtains are beautiful against the wall and already do tie in. So I don't know the right word but you know how some colour chips go lighter to darker so I'm thinking a colour from your curtains that will flow naturally from them to the wall `without actually being in either. Does that make sense?

It does; blfenton, and I think you are right about overload. I've seen many patterned drapes with trim added, and it looks very finished and nice generally. But these do make a strong statement already, and almost immediately after I posted the question, I think I knew the answer. Same with the navy walls. A room like this (it's not a big DR; the small table makes it look bigger) can only handle maybe one or two "statements." Once you've crossed that line, you've created a room that people will generally stay away from when given a choice.

That's what I love about this forum; usually, when you take the photos and post a question, you are able to make a good decision and can usually answer it yourself; but having other eyes look at the same thing always helps.

I might stay away from trim, at least for the time. Sometimes enough is just that, enough and I think you have reached that where this is perfect. But in a while, after viewing and tiring, you might want to go into trim territory for a new look.
