I would think somewhere b/w traditional and transitional as well. I think it's the decor in the "room" that's making me say transitional though. What style are you trying to achieve?

Well, I don't think it's transitional, because of the curved headboard and the feet.

The feet are what you call "bun feet" and are usually found on what they call "Traditional" style.

Here is a bed like yours sold by Canyon Creek, and they call it a "Traditional" panel bed.

Yup! It's the Canyon Creek! You are so good!!! But I didn't see much in the way of information on it when we bought it, we just saw it on the show room floor and bought it on the spot.

I don't have a real direction for the room, just casual and relaxing. We've painted the walls a very soft tone of blue grey, and added some crown moulding. I haven't gotten bedding, drapes or even lamps yet. I just haven't seen anything that feels "right", and thought knowing the style would help, I was thinking traditional, but was hoping for Transitional. Oh well. I still love it! :c)

When you are starting with traditional and aiming for transitional, you can accomplish that with your lighting.

Go with something sleeker instead of fancy iron scrolled lamps. You could even do some of the cool RH crystal ones that I find quite nice.

Same with the window treatments.

Ah...ok. Would you be able to post a sample of what you're talking about. Cause I bought some polished nickel lamps with a more slim lined design w/straight round shades but it didn't go over so well.

Personally, I would add greys and warm greens (sage and olive) to the color palette mentioned here.

I think the key to Transitional style is serenity. Lines are horizontal, almost Asian... there are no ruffles, flowery patterns, no lace. It can be a fairly "masculine" style, if you'll pardon the term.

Love your bed! Have you had drawers under your bed before? If not, don't you love it? I've never understood wasting that space that's not easy to clean, when it could be flat on the floor, with useful drawers for storage. I'd buy that set in a heartbeat especially two rows of drawers high, and remove the buns to set right on the floor eleminating just another place hard to keep clean. I bought my 96year old mother an IRumba just to retreve what rolls under her bed. I'm thrilled to learn such a beautifully styled bed exhists, All I'd seen is are the cheap Oyster,Captain type. luk, what do you mean that the lamps didn't go over so well?

Are you describing a drum shade? If so, that would be the kind I would recommend if you're trying to go in that direction. Maybe the size wasn't good.

Is the hardware on your set nickel? I don't know what your budget is for lamps. Your could check Restoration Hardware or Lampsplus for a knockoff. Lampsplus wasn't getting along with my computer this morning so I don't have any pics.

Mclarke: Thank you for the description of transitional. That's definately the feel I'm going for, planning on black/white photos, white mats, black frames and softer colors to blend in with the room. I'll use this for a guide.

Bodica - Thanks for your compliment regarding our bed. We love it! Our room is not hugh and this was a great option for us because an armoire or large dresser would have just swallowed up the space.

Parma42: We're renovating our whole house so my budget isn't the best, but the brushed nickel lamps were completely washed out by the grey blue walls. I did use the drum lampshade and loved that part, it was just the tone of the lamps that didn't live up to par. I also think I bought them in the wrong scale. I used pretty tall ones but our mattress is also very high on the bed and it just dwarfed them.

I think I'll take a couple of pics of the room after work and post them so you can take a peak at what I'm talking about. In the meantime I'll look at lampsplus. Your input is really appreciated!
