What a gorgeous buffet! I personally don't feel that furniture has to match the flooring -- I much prefer a blend of wood tones, but that's just me. It would be difficult for me to bring myself to get rid of a piece like this, but only you can know for sure how attached you are to it. I guess you have to weigh the pros and cons of putting your table into storage. Are you making a temporary move, but will be able to use your table with this buffet at some point in the future?

My mom had a deco dining set with a buffet similar to that, but not in nearly as good of a condition. Unfortunately, it got stored in a garage in Arizona, which dried otu the glue holding the veneers together so it has gone to the great buffet home in the sky.

Nobody is going to notice the floors underneath a piece like that.

I'm drooling here. If you have to get rid of it just send it to me. I have a few pieces of waterfall furniture. I absolutely love it. None of mine compares to this piece at all. You are so lucky to have such a beautiful piece. Holding up a piece of wood floor won't really tell you anything. We went through the same fear when we purchased our oak floors. Our kitchen cabinets are maple, though not in the same room the sunroom opens to the kitchen and the island is less than a foot in from the wood floors. We were pleasantly surprised that the darkest of the oak matched beautifully with the chestnut stained maple. I'm sure you'll be surprised how well the cherry works with this lovely piece.

I'd think long and hard before selling that piece as for sure you'll not find another one like it. Right now all you are focusing on is the floor and the buffet, but once all your other decor is in place with some WTs, floor rugs, wall art, wall color, etc. to look at I doubt you'll even notice how it coordinates with the floors. Most people look at things more or less at eye level anyway. I vote to keep it!

I agree with val and auntjen...and all the other posters that love the piece and want to help you see that it will work.

The buffet is really lovely ...waiting will cost you nothing and you will never get what that piece is worth if you try and sell. Matching is very highly over rated. c

Thank you everyone for all the nice compliments, I will find a place for our buffet at our new home. I thought my hubby was the only one who liked it, because he appreciates antiques. We bought it from the owners of our first home for the dining room when we were 21, almost 30 years ago. I have very little furniture nor knowledge of antiques , I seem to prefer matching trendy pieces. I'll treasure this "because you said so!!" :>)

While I love to have things mixed up as far as woods go, the reality is that some times different stains/woods just don't look good togther. I think this is what SWN is saying. I have an antque oak dresser that looks awful with my antique wood floors - the colors are not complimentary at all.

That said, maybe you can use the piece on carpet somewhere? It is a beautiful buffet. I would work in almost any room.

It is stunning and I think you should keep it because I think it's irreplaceable. I have never seen another one like it and I'm no spring chicken. If I loved it but wasn't able to make it work now I'd probably put it in holding somewhere until I could find the perfect spot.
