Alex - A big Thank you!

Thank you for posting the craigslist Swedish dresser. It is in my house as of now, but just unloaded and not in place. Probably won't, happen until next weekend. We are now out of town for the weekend and got a super busy week coming up. I will post a pic on this thread then. I think it needs A coat of wax and a bit cleaning up as it was in storage.

I really like it and consider I bought it sight unseen I'm thrilled. My husband picked it up on his way home yesterday. Said the guy was really nice and it used to be his moms. The other buyers were dealers and he thinks his mom was looking down and smiling that it went to another Swede.

A big thanks to my3dogs too for highlighting it in the new craigslist thread.

I know I speak for alex, too, as I read this with a huge smile on my face. I'm SO glad you got it. It's just beautiful, and the clean-up and waxing will just make it more part of your family now. I actually enjoy that part, as it lets me get to know the new piece better.

Carmen, start the tomato seeds right away. It is too hot outside for the kale, but if you can keep them indoors or in the shade it might work. Same with broccoli, when is cooler you can get some decent transplants for broccoli from the stores , the pack man variety does well and I plant them as a decoy for my dogs so they leave alone other crops. If you like kale, it is one crop that does very well, very easy to grow. I still have some that survived the heat, they taste better when is cooler. Good luck with your next fall garden! Silvia

Hi. Thank you very much. I was out of town (some of my near relations is having health issues), so I was checking only emails. I will continue working on my project. Slowly, but steady.=) The post about the Quick Step is only in a draft stage now.

They have an odd smell in the package, probably odors one doesn't smell when there are fragrances covering it up. Will be curious to see what you think of the cleaning ability. I like using them on kitchen linens where I want no scent in the final product. You already know how the Boost pacs work, but an unscented variety might be nice when you don't want to lose the scent of the detergent you are using. Just...ignore the color. LOL

cpartist Yes we were originally planning a two story. We scrapped that plan and started over. We decided, as retired persons, we didn't want to be climbing stairs any more. We are very happy with that decision. We do have a large room over the garage that we use for storage. We are built on a raised slab to eliminate the risk of ocean flooding so we needed storage space. Below is a pic of our view. I will take a few more of the house and post them in the next day or two.

No problem Alex, I'm just back online now after being away for a few days. I wrote the post on our drive to our getaway.

Tack sa mycket - my3dogs.

So does anybody have any good suggestions on what to use to clean it?

I plan on using clear wax - looking at Antiquax. Any others I should look at?

I have just three tins of wax in my arsenal, and the clear one is just Butcher's Wax. The other two are BriWax, dark brown and light brown. I have used the light brown on pine before to give it a bit more depth, NOT that your beautiful dresser needs it.

Since my3dogs has a wealth of experience and shares a love of antique pine, I'd use what SHE uses :)

my3dogs - thank you for your input. I wanted to use clear to be true to the piece as that is what would have been used in Sweden. I looked at it and I think it can handle just clear. I can always redo later if not.

What would you recommend as far as cleaning it?

When you say 'clean it', how do you mean? Other than dust, what's on it? I got my little vintage pine shelf (below) last night, or 'wall hutch' as called by the nice seller, and it is old and unfinished. NOT as old as your dresser, but it had lots of dust, and a few small white marks that came off with a fingertip. I just dampened a paper towel, and wiped it with that after using my vacuum brush on it.

Even the clear wax MAY darken it slightly, but I just would like to know what is on it that needs to be removed, as it looks so pristine!

There is some black sticky stuff in one of the drawers, another has something else - exterior wise it just needs a dusting and a like you suggested a damp wiping.

I was considering trying to use some dawn for the sticky stuff.

That's a good idea, or if you have a Magic Eraser, I'd try that, especially if it's on the inside. They really ARE magic, and have worked for me when other products fail.
