Hiring and interior designer for a pre-construction house

Hi all,

We have just gone under contract on a contemporary free standing townhome pre-construction in Houston. The home is yet to be built so we get to pick all the details, color of wood floors and cabinets, tiles for flooring and bathrooms, appliances, lighting, faucets, paint (pretty much everything). I am going through different garden web forums to decide on materials/brands etc.

However, I am wondering if it would make sense to get an interior designer right now so that things are just the way we want. For example I would not want to pick colors/cabinets/countertops now and then for them to not go along with our furniture etc.

What does everybody think? Good idea or not? I am assuming that since we are not buying anything right now, we should pay them on an hourly basis. Ideas?

If yes, do you have any recommendations for interior designers or decorators in the Houston area. I would describe our style as soft contemporary/modern so experience in that sort of work would be a huge positive.
