I think they'd be lovely! My personal preference is the look of mis-matched things that are not all from the same period, nor all in the same style. I think those tables would look great in your room!

I think that they are wonderful tables! Big enough for a mug of tea or glass of wine! LOL!

I was hoping to wait on this, but he called me up since I was the first email and told me he has 5 other inquiries about the tables (so I don't think he wants to make a deal). I did not bring it up again. So, I have appt. in 1/2 hour will need to leave in 10 mins so any other feedback is appreciated. I hate to make a snap decision, but the color/size works and they are so over the top that I thinking either it will really make the room or look terrible, but could probably resell later.

I think they would go beautifully. I love the inlay. I think the type of lamps you place on them would be critical to making it all work--nothing too ornate.

If the scale is the same, I think that the table you're showing there is much too small for the furniture they will flank. A bigger pie crust style table would be lovely, but a skinny table with a tiny top...it's a scale unbalance big time. :o(

Don't know if you got it or not but your upholstered pieces are nice and big, so I have to agree with igloochic that the scale of that table is too small. Also that a beefier piecrust would be awesome. If they are nesting tables, though, they will have more heft so could be good, hard to tell without actually seeing them. As for using antique pieces with your furniture, I think that would be lovely. I think designers even use some antique pieces in contemporary settings.

Well I got them, though am still not sure if they work or not. I really don't have space for anything larger--so it's either this size or none at all with a bookcase type thing to the left (current one is being phased out).

How does it look juxtapositioned with the storage ottoman for a coffee table? I would not want to do more ornate pieces in here. Of all things, today I saw a transitional style table in this size at Target--so that could be another option.

I've always loved inlay. Have you ever seen a lovely piece of furniture that has been unused and neglected and want to restore it? These are that. One of them is in better condition and the other has some deep scratches on the top. As I've been wanting to try my hand at cleaning, restoring wood and I really only NEED one of the tables in my room, I figure the scratched up one with be my learning piece. The seller would not sell individually, but I figure I can always clean up and resell (for probably even more as I've seen these types of tables listed for much more on eBay).

Can anyone hazard a guess at the species of wood used?

Those are a gem. I have two antique tables in our LR that are very similar. One is taller and one is slightly bigger. They are lovely and every woman that comes to my house comments on them. Our LR is traditional as well
I gave our daughter two other antique tables that are bigger. She has them in her Victorian home and they look gorgeous. The one you showed is wonderful.

Joann: I was hoping you would reply. I need your advice what to do with them. As you may know, I want to also clean/restore my DR chairs, but I like the idea of working on the scuffed table as a first project. I'm really not sure if they work in this room or not since this is more of a casual/transitional room, but these tables called out to me. Do the straight simple lines of the other furniture balance out this more ornate piece? Does the ottoman work OK with the tables if I were to put one to either side of the sectional? I have no idea what this will do to my plan for the bookcase....

I too think it looks very nice.....however, if you should change you mind, let me know as they would look lovely in my LR!! :-)

Those are a great little tables, Val. I'm glad you just got them, for wherever they might fit in. I was thinking about your footstool today, as you were asking whether it was ok to mix in a few old things there. One thing I've noticed, and it was noted by a teacher I had as well -- mixing a few old things in with "new" doesn't really look right, but somehow mixing a few new things in with "old" works. That's how I feel about your br. These tables, I don't think belong in the family room, looking back at the pictures and adjoining kitchen, but maybe you can work them into your vintage lr. The drum tables would probably blend better in the fr, as they have cleaner lines, though they look so great in there and with the coffee table!

I would have gotten them regardless of having a space for them, as they are quite lovely in style and detail and could find their place somewhere down the road! From a distance, it seems to work nicely with the Chloe chair and what I can see of the rug, it's the rest of the space, overall, and your kitchen and eating area, where I don't think they work well.

I think it might be mahogany or rosewood, definitely Victorian, and while a very nice find, a little too ornate and fussy next to your other things. My rule is that if it doesn't say yes, then the answer is no. If it says yes to you, then the answer is yes, because you will enjoy it.

I like them and think they will work out well. Clean them up and apply a nice coat of wax. Set up your lamp and other accessories and enjoy. I have a mix of antique & traditional furniture, even some asian accessories, and I find it all works. You'll know if the balance isn't right!

I think by the time you change out your other stuff you'll find the table adds a little pop that the room needs.
If you want to add some weight to it, place a potted fern (live or faux) between the chair and the back leg of the table.

I agree with squirrel and bigdoglover-- lovely tables but they aren't rockin your space. I do like round tables there though-- I thought the one on books looked good.

Have you checked out Ballards? I remember them having some small round side tables that were inexpensive.. and there's 15% off the site right now.

My local unfinished furniture place has a nice small round side table too-- and i think they all carry pretty much the same lines.

And believe it or not, a friend just bought one at target for beside one of their beds.

Still it's a great set and will be a terrific project. They won't go wasted.

Thank you everyone for the honest opinions. This was an impulse buy; but I've figured out the solution. We are going to buy a guest cottage for all of my CL finds that are just too tempting to pass up! I wish.... Tomorrow I may try them in the LR, though the LR furniture is all mahogany.

I realize now I really need to get rid of the bookcase as once I shoved it over more there seems to be more space--perhaps for a 24" round. Tomorow it's going on CL. I'll try the drum tables for size there tomorrow. I'll take some more pics tomorrow and start a new thread about my FR--please look for it. I've been stumped with this room for over a year now. I do need to get a bookcase and 1-2 end tables. I really need some different perspectives. I'm liking the ottoman there at least. It never worked before I realize now because there were no side tables. If anyone can help me with the design-a-room software, I'd really appreciate it.

have in the first photo next to the sofa, that reminds me of the one I have only mine is taller.

you need a darker coffee table and bookshelves.

We clean our antiques with Napta. It removes all the grit and grime.
We put it on just with a light rub ( it evaporates, then we wax and buff them up using Butcher wax.
The naptha is only used once to get out all the grit and grime on your 'new' antique, be careful and don't rub it
in hard.

Thanks, Joann. I may just cleanup and resell if they don't work in the LR. Actually, I need a medium toned wood in the FR and the LR/DR is all darker mahogany. Other thought I'm considering (though will bring up in a separate post in more detail) is going a mix of cream and medium stained maple. I've found a bookcase, but that is "french country" -- not sure if that goes any better here. I'm really decorating challenged in this room.

Make that naphtha (not picking on you Joann, just want to make sure someone Google-ing gets what they're looking for). We use it at work here - it's good stuff!

I think your wonderful tables are ribbon mahogany and that they are lovely in the family room. Definitely unhappily compete in the LR, while the larger mahogany ones there are much better with the LR furniture.

An easy fix to help them work better in the FR is to change the pillows to less contemporary ones. I think their curvy legs pick up and complement with damask chair.

BTW, you are not decorating challenged! Your home is lovely so enjoy!

I think that new round table is great in your room. I like an eclectic mix of styles. The room is coming together nicely.

I like them in the FR better than the living room. I love the look of antiques blended with more modern pieces. I think adding a few carefully chosen vintage accessories in the room will balance the styles. Since you've got vintage/antique pieces in both your other main living spaces, I also feel that a touch in your FR really ties the house together.
