And since this is for resale I would just do an off white for the ceiling. Dover white is nice, it's SW's best selling white.It reads white but it's a little warmer and softer then stark white.

I think a color would just draw attention to the low ceiling.

Do you have any light at all, ie ground level windows or walk-out door? If not, light and bright is what I would pick. We have BM Albany White (in the OC section, just a nice pale coffee color). Behr Chocolate Froth is a cooler/grayer version.

i think a cream or very light gray wall and blue ceilings would be great, but i wouldn't make them powder blue... that would be very limiting decor wise- a nice blue gray maybe?? (LOL out of the 100's to choose from!)

BKW, what is on the floor? I think if the floor is unfinished, then yes, prime it and leave it. If the floor IS finished, I think the space needs to be finished. Bottom line is, prospective buyers will look at it and think, "Oh, and a finished basement!" or they will think, "Oh, and an almost finished basement!" Neither is bad, but for the sake of a few hours work, if the floor IS finished, you could put your house in the first category.

I wouldn't leave the ceiling just primer. IMO ceilings are a pain to paint after everything else is done. I'd actually rather the walls be primed over the ceiling. I'd paint the ceiling white.

Kilim is nice but I'd get a sample to make sure it doesn't look pink in your lighting. Some of my rooms it does and some it doesn't.

bestyears, the floor will be white berber with some gray undertones to it. Nice and bright.

I was thinking that the white primer I have in my car right now, might just do the trick alone. I guess, I'll wait and see and also see what the agents say. I think we are going to stick the ping pong table in there or maybe the treadmill. Need to give the room a purpose.

If possible -- add a chair, small silver table and silver lamp in a far corner.

I just painted my kitchen and dining room Manchester Tan HC-81 and the ceilings Silver Crest 1583, both by Ben Moore. I really like the Silver Crest. It's a very pale blue that reads as a soft white but still gives me that outdoor feeling. These rooms get next to no natural light most of the day so they should work in your basement. I might also sample Bleeker Beige HC-80 and Grant Beige HC-83 on the walls.

My vote is for BM Manchester Tan because I have it in my family room and I love it. To me it's the perfect neutral (and I am not a neutral kind of girl!). It sometimes leans gray, so I think it will coordinate nicely with the rest of your house.

But, I have to say that I do not think it will matter if you paint down there, or just prime. By the time lookers get to the basement in your beautiful house, as long as it's clean and dry, it's not going to matter. They will be sold long before they get there!

I think you would love the manchester tan (I have that in one room & love it), Bleeker Beige or the Grant Beige.

We have Manchester Tan in kitchen which has cathedral
ceilings and 2 skylights (25X14) and Bleeker Beige in
master bath (19X12). I love both colors!

We just did our basement in SW Navajo White. It's a warm white with pale gray Berber carpet.

Beekeeper - are you also moving to a different part of the country? I wonder what type of home you'll end up buying?

Well, that's a lot of Manchester Tan votes. I looked at my fan deck. Looks good to me, not to dark but rich enough to give the illusion of a decorated space.

If the plain primer doesn't work out, I'll get a couple of gallons of it!

I wonder if Lowe's can match it. They have been missing the mark lately when they have made attempts.
