You might try lowering clock, and raising lamp by placing books or something beneath it, and slide over the candles.

I love the photoshop :) That just made me giggle a little bit. Thank you for the suggestions. I wasn't sure what level to put the clock at, and my 6'3" hubbie kept going higher and higher.

We have vaulted ceilings in that LR, so the wall is taller than it looks in the picture. If I don't *have* to lower the clock, Iwon't. But I'd love to hear other opinions!

It looks a little too perfect, a little too affected to me, with the items on the table placed equidistant from each other. I might try putting the candles where mjlb recommends, or pushing them as far back as possible, and propping a small framed photo near the vase of flowers--but angled toward the chair, not straight.

Don't know if the lamp cord bothers you at all, but I have used 3M command hooks (made to secure wires) on mine. You can put the (removable) adhesive hook pads 2 or 3 places in back--on the back of the table leg and on the wall molding, to secure it. I found it looks much neater!

Good ideas! My husband has some clear zipties he's going to use on the cords tonight.

I know what you mean about the "too perfect." It's all to...symetrical. I have tons of family pictures and doodads around in boxes, I need to make it a little more homey.

Much more better! It's really coming along. I agree the lamp should be even higher still. The basket is good too. I really like the book idea. I could really see some photos of faces making it even more yours.

It DOES look a lot better! I have some questions for you -

Do you feel you'll actually use the lamp in that location, or is it for display only? I ask because I see it's very close to the light switch and wonder if someone reaching for switch has to be careful that they don't knock the lamp over.

If you will use a lamp there, do you have one that is a bit less contemporary and has more color, to balance the other items on the table? I'd love to see one with a shade with more color and texture, and I think it would go better with that style table as well. (I'm a lamp freak, so have many hanging around - wish I could send you one!)

I'd cut some of the stems of the Chinese lanterns down a bit so they fill in more near the top of the vase. Feel free to spread them out a bit to 'open' up the arrangement a little more. It'll look more natural that way.

I agree that you should lower the clock and put the lamp on some books. Is the clock black or brown? Depending on which color it is, I would get two baskets for under the table that you can stack. I think if they are in the same color family as the clock, it would tie the colors together.
Then I would cut the flowers lower and add some more to make the arrangement look fuller. If the stems are bendable, I would make some of the outside branches droop down a little over the sides of the vase.
Remove the candles altogether and add a picture near the vase so that the middle of the table remains empty.
It's hard to decide what looks right to your eye, especially with so many suggestions!!!

Would it not be easier to put a piece of glass cut to the top of table opening and then place lamp and display on that? Thus no need for books to raise lamp and perhaps no need to lower clock. Just a thought

I'm going to mess around with the details tonight to see what works and what doesn't. I'll post again :)

Here are some other ideas. Soften the pass-thru by flanking the end, give the clock more weight by mounting/framing it. Here are two different colors and heights for that. Skewed the little seat : )

Being extremely decorating-challenged, this may be the first time I've ventured into giving an opinion but here goes:

I'm not feeling the wicker stool(?)placed underneath the table. It doesn't seem to relate to the table, objects and clock and I think you have enough going on visually on top of the table that you don't need the distraction underneath.

I think I would go the book route- the glass should be tempered to hold up the items and can be very expensive. You would need to go to a glass shop. I think dark brown or black colored books under the lamp will give interest and as well as the height. Keep the flowers in that great vase where they are- you can cut as 3dogs suggests.I would put the candles back and then put the pictures next to them as well as a little doo dad on the other side of the candles perhaps a shell or a stone. Just so you dont have 4 items. Use either 3 or 5. The stool works for me if you have red throw to drape on it. I would lower the clock. It took a lot of discussion between my DH and I to figure out that eye level needed to be for me and not him in order to be at the right height. I love that table so much it would be perfect in my house!I love the accent pieces you have chosen for your table!

Don't ask me why but the lamp needs to go on the right and the vase on the left.

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions! I really love what you have done, squirrel! You do such amazing work! I love the mirror and tapestry, but I am pretty in love with the clock. I am going to lower it as soon as my DH goes out of town. I'm guessing he won't even notice the difference, but he kind of threw a fit when I said I wanted to lower it. Men. (no offense to any men on this board.)

I love the idea of a plant underneath the table. I agree with you all that the stool just looks a little out of place. I am sure I can find somewhere else for it to go, and find a nice plant or something else to go underneath.

I really, really, really like the idea of softening up the pass-through, and I'll do that tonight and see what I can come up with.

Hi, I just went to your curtains thread, since i saw it first, now I'm here. I agree about the clock needing to be lower. I also think a big basket underneath the table would work. Maybe fill it with 6 or 7 faux hydrangeas! Don't know what style you like, but I am getting a vintage feel, maybe because of the cream colored furniture, but it looks nice.

Thanks, kmcg85! I do like a vintage feel with a touch of antique in it as well. I really admire my aunt's style and always feel so comfortable and at home when I am there. She has tons of antiques and lots of bold patterns and colors. I tend to go for more neutrals (creams & whites) and then add punches of colors. But I do love the character of antiques. I'm *just* realizing this about myself!

This whole decorating process has really taught me a lot about myself. And I really thank everyone on this board for giving me advice!
