GE Monogram is a great one. If it fits, then why not? you get what you pay for.

It's a great cooktop, but then "you get what you pay for"...what is that suppose to mean? Do you have one?

newhomebuilder I have the Monogram duel fuel 48" range. I love everything about it except that the burners don't get quite as hot as I would like (for searing and stir frying). I think it is due to us only having propane rather than natural gas, but I couldn't get any good info from Monogram on what to expect. In every other way it performs really well as did its predecessor, also a Monogram.

We had the GE Profile gas cooktop at a previous house and loved it. The new ones look even better. I was just checking out the GE site and read about a "Dual flame stacked burner." They say it, "Features a unique two-in-one burner design for 18,000 BTU boiling or gentle 140� simmering." I also like the option for a white cooktop, since we're leaning toward returning to white appliances in our next (& last) home.

One thing I learned from the GW kitchen forum was to specify a 42" vent hood for my 36" cooktop. I was glad we did that, especially since we did a lot of stir frying.

If we go with gas instead of induction for our next house, this cooktop will be on my short list. I think it's a good value.

I have the GE Profile 5 burner cooktop. I was so surprised to read about the letters wearing off the top and it scratching so easily because that has been exactly what happened to mine! Mine is 4 years old now and I haven't experienced anything wrong with the function, but am very disappointed with the writing on the top rubbing off. I don't know what the solution for that is...you do have to clean it!

I don't think anything can be done about the letters. The complaints that I have read said that they were not getting any help from GE.

I think I will go with the Monogram in hopes that the lettering may hold up better. Either way, I will be careful around the letters when cleaning.

Is the SS surface like the refrigerator and dishwasher surfaces, in that you use the paste or cloths to clean it?

rockmanor - Interesting that you want to go back to white. WE have had black (dust shows too much), white (liked the white, but heard it can yellow), and now the stainless.

I would say that the stainless looks the best when clean, but it's a pain to keep that way! The white was the easiest. We had an interior kitchen with white cabinets, and I think not having direct sunlight helped keep the appliances and cabinets from yellowing. See photo.

All appliances were KENMORE (third time using Kenmore without any problems!)

On a side note: I don't think those ORB appliances took off very well. I would think they would really be hard to keep looking good.

I have a black GE Profile Spectra gas stove with the glass top. I love it. It also has a warming area in between the burners as well as a warming drawer. I find the warming drawing is rather useless so I continue to store things in it.
I find it pretty easy to keep clean especially since I can use a razor blade to clean up the glass top.

OH! I use my warming drawer to warm the plates in the winter (before putting food on them) and occasionally if we are entertaining.

Newhomebuilder, thanks for posting the pictures of your former kitchen. It looks so cheery and bright. I want to show it to dh this weekend. He will love your mix of glass front, open and closed uppers, too.

I still miss that kitchen, but I think the SS appliance would look really good in there. Stainless was just coming around back in 2001.
