GE Profile vs GE Monogram Induction cooktop

It looks like I'm stuck with another GE cooktop unless I want to cut into countertops etc. Does anyone have the GE Profile or Monogram... do you like it? Is there a major difference in the two? Would you recommend them?

There are alot of active threads on the board right now in which people talk about their GE Induction cooktop. I just posted about mine last week. You can read my comments by clicking the link below. Also read the other threads that are on page 1 and 2 with "induction" in the subject line.

When I bought my GE Profile 36" induction cooktop (frameless) in March 2008, the Profile and Monogram were the same price and the only difference between the two was the appearance of the cooktop: the Monogram had blue circles identifying where the burners were located; the Profile had dark grey speckles on each burner. I chose the Profile because I liked the way it looked. The specifications, power, performance, etc were all the same; it was purely looks.

Sherean; I've had the GE Induction Range for about 6 weeks. Switched over from a Sears Smooth top range, with which I despised greatly. I grew up cooking with gas. I LOVE LOVE LOVE (did I mention I love this range?) this range. I will be redoing my kitchen this summer, we bought this range early b/c Sears had a fabulous sale in October (I got it for $2159). I also decided against wall ovens as I have a convection micro: that and the range provide plenty of oven space. I love the responsiveness of the burners (the middle warming hob is radiant, not induction, btw -- not a problem). The Convection oven is large, has worked wonderfully. The warming drawer was fabulous at Christmas -- we had many people over 5 hours and it really worked well at staging the biscuits and meat. The rangetop is a joy and soooo easy to clean, compared to that #$^%%$# smoothtop that is sitting in my garage. My only complaint thus far is that fingertips show easily on the control panel - but disappear easily with a microfibre cloth. Oh, and the timer has a weenie beep, compared to the ^%$^&^%$%% old smoothtop. I bought a Circulon Infinite set and a Henckels International Classic Clad. I have been very pleased with both sets. One word of warning, it took 3 delivery dates to get the range, it was delievered 6 weeks after I bought it. Plan accordingly. Here's a link where I have 2 posts discussing more about the range. Unfortunately the Elux is a "Hybrid". It has both radiant ribbon burners and Induction Hobs. When that one first came out , I saw several reviews that said the thing never worked. One of the problems with a Hybrid is if you use the radiant ribbon burners, the cooktop will get hot enough to burn stuff on, (Just like any "Conventional" Smooth Electric Cooktop) so you lose one of induction's best attributes, Ease of cleaning (or no cleaning if you cover it with paper towels as I do). Based on earlier reviews of that product, and the fact that it is a hybrid, I would "pass". Sorry to be the "bearer of bad news." WATCH OUT!!!! I found sites that do not describe it as a "Hybrid". If it is model # EW30CC55GW 30 or EW30CC55GW 36, then it is either a 30 or 36" Hybrid. Gary

I have a Monogram, and use the simmer feature all the time. GE's claim of 140 degrees is reliable (I use a Raytek laser gun to confirm). (One reason I beat hubby down on his insistence on Viking is that Viking wouldn't commit to a specific simmer temp.) I frequently use 1-quart pots.

Last year we built a new home and went with the Monogram. I wanted the handles, gas stove and the 240 Advantium. We are now currently building our 2nd new home, but I am preferring the Profile's handles this time.. and just don't feel the price difference is worth it, since I have been told that they really are identical, except for exterior features and price.

We have the GE 30" Profile, with the ss frame. Purchased in summer 2008. At the time, the specs were exactly the same between the profile and the monogram, and the profile was a few hundred less (via the induction site). We did think the stainless/mirrored monogram looked really cool, but the black controls on it were funny looking, so decided to stick to all black. Got the framed version because we were worried about cracking an exposed glass corner without it.

Performance is excellent. The large burder is quite large and very powerful. Overall, great control, great power and a good price. Cleaning up is easy and no noticeable scratches or other issues after 9 months.

Only small quibbles--it does hum (not enough to bother us, but usually it is noticeable), more so with some cookware than others. Wish the larger burner were centered so as to provide better capture of smoke when stir-frying (we have it in a peninsula). Clearance requirements underneath are high--meant we used pullout shelves instead of more efficient drawers under it.

On balance, happy and would recommend.
