It's a gorgeous fixture, but I agree with you -- it does seem a bit heavy for where it's hanging. (Is that you in the pic, giving it a rather nasty look? LOL!)

The fixture is beautiful!!! It would look great over a dining room table, but I don't think it looks right over your island. It is very, very nice though...

In my opinion the combination of the size as well as how dark it is makes it out of scale for the space.

I think you're on the right track. Love the shape and style, but maybe a little more simple. Sort of the same thing without the heaviness of the iron work in the middle.

Agreed. It's a GORGEOUS dining room chandy. Not so much an over the island fixture.

I agree - its too much and too heavy for over the island. Plus, like the fixture that's over my island, it doesn't provide much task lighting.

I am surprising myself by saying that I like it and I think it suits what I can see of your kitchen/home style!

However, I do think the placement is off and cleaning the fixture would be a nightmare! Just think of all the grease it will catch.

I LOVE the fixture, but you need something that provides better task lighting for your island. Have hubby scrub a pan that you've cooked something in. Put it aside, then look at it in daylight and see if it really is clean. I think a fixture with down lights will serve you better.

I agree with most of the others. Very pretty fixture but not in that spot. I think when you walk in the kitchen the fixture would be the first thing that draws attention. It's too heavy for that spot in my opinion.

I think the expression on your face in that last photo (assuming that's you) says it all: pretty, but it's not right in your space.

I like it w/a caveat - ditch the pendants to simplify and add shades so that it gets more of a Country French feel.

Tell your DH that you love it, but you need something more functional. It's over the sink, y'see, and you need a fixture that works more as "task lighting" for your "work space".

Men understand stuff like that.

I'm a HUGE fan of chandeliers over an island! (I have 2 minis over my island, and another over my kitchen table.)

But I agree that yours does look very "heavy" for the space. It sort of overpowers the room, rather than accenting it, IFYKWIM.

When we first were doing our current kitchen, I bought a chandelier that was pretty, but very chunky and "heavy" for over the table. I never quite liked it, and eventually replaced it with a similar-but-much-"lighter" fixture, and am so glad I did.

You can borrow my "Reno_fan" test to see if you can live with it (LOL!): For the next 3 days, walk into your kitchen and without thinking about it at all, look at the fixture and make a note of how you feel. If after 3 days you still have that knot of doubt/dislike in your stomach when you walk in, you'll know to change it. (The test works better the longer you can wait. If it's not right the first few days, it will not be "right" weeks later, either.)

I'll dive in. I like it very much. It picks up the dark of the island and the dark cabinets behind you( funny face!) And gives a nice contrast to the light painted cabs. I don't think it is too much at all for over your island.I have a small chandelier in my small kitchen and the pendants are not hard to clean and stay looking good and mine are clear - the amber who could tell anyway?

How long are you married? Doesn't your hubby know you're always right, even when your wrong you're right!?! :)

This is what I know from experience, if you're not 100% sure of something and your hubby is, that usually means
that you're going to not like it a few months down the road. Nice chandelier though, hubby has good taste, but it's just not the right place for it. Bottom line, it should be something you both love! Happy hunting.

When I fall so in love with something that I want to keep it even if it's not the ideal choice for the space that trumps everything else. Your chandelier is so beautiful it could go either way...depending on how much you actually like it. And it doesn't sound like you're totally sold on it. So maybe there is a better one out there for you. I think those amber teardrops are wonderful. They add a delicate touch to it and bring some of the browns from the granite over to the island. But what I can't tell from your photo is what color this chandelier actually is. When it's lit it turns a lovely antique copper color and when it's not lit it appears black. I would like to see what a chandelier looks like if it were lighter in color, more coppery-brown than black, to help tie in the warm tones of the granite on the opposite cream cabinets to this island. There appears to be a lot of black on black with the island, chandelier, and granite all one color.

I just noticed the copper platter on the opposite wall where you (or whoever it is) standing in the photo with a mug in hand. See how that copper pops against the deep color of the cabinetry? It's stunning, I love that. What if you mimicked that color combination in the island area...where the chandelier and faucet become like the copper platter set against the dark wood of the island's cabinetry?

I think that is one gorgeous light and I do really like it in your kitchen. The style works lovely. The first picture looks good, but in some of the others it looks like it might be scaled a little large for your island. On that note, a chandelier is always better a little large than too small. I love seeing something different & it matches & looks great. I would suggest living with it up for a week or so (if you can). For me I'm often a little in shock with something new & have to look at it for a few days or so to really know if I love it and it works for me. My kitchen is unfinished, but wanted to share with you that I went with two iron-like chandeliers over our island.

I like it. I think your kitchen is pretty enough to pull it off and I don't see why it would get greasy, after all it is near a sink not a stove. I like the reno-test (gut test). Let us know the conclusion!
