How toxic is oil-based paint?
Comments (21)referencing article on painting over Benjamin Moore Oil Impurvo with Impurvo oil, you do not need to reprime. just give a wash if dirty, rinse, dry, light sanding with say 150, 180, 220 grit sandpaper or sponge, vacuum, maybe some deglosser - old school tolulene based for oils- note krud cutter makes good deglosser if your use latex paints or hybrids (sythetic oils). Then just paint your beautiful trim with your Impurvo. I would just suggest touching up if possible. your never fully match due to the yellowing of the paint but it looks better than bare wood nicks. I have come to appreciate very slight tints to my with trim paints - better hides. If your going to stick with Imurvo- suggest couple drops of yellow to start - but good paint mixers will have there knowledge formulas. Unfortunately, if you choose pastel bases, your coverage / hide will always be two coats- unless your very good or spray. If you decide to take the plunge and convert to latex, Bejamine Moore advanced is the stuff. The jury is still out on whether to prime or not. I would recomend a good undercoater - oid fresh start is still the best, Yet i this advanced has one in latex, but many stores don't stock. and then top coat - now you can touch up spots for years. Yet i still love oil on trim....See MoreAny way to get oil-based paint off concrete patio?
Comments (5)Yep, they are correct --- mineral spirits. In my case I really (I mean REALLY) made a mess so that time we had splatters/globs, I used an old rag with mineral spirits, wiped it on the globs and let it set. Then used a rented high-pressure sprayer on full force, directed the thin spray at the gobs and now you can't even tell where I made my huge mess. After that little fiasco of mine, we had time left on the rented sprayer so used the high-pressure sprayer on many other gobs of stuff on our concrete/cement walkways, patio, etc. Made us realize how much we needed our own high-pressure sprayer. It works miracles on so many things around the home and 'on' the house itself, so we bought one on Ebay. lol...See MorePulls Hair Out!!! Can someone pick a paint color for my cabinets!
Comments (12)Amysrq you are right my inspiration photo is a lot darker. Mouse's Back in my kitchen looks like baby poo. I love the color though but, not in that room with that light. Hardwick White was pretty close too in my kitchen but, it went really khaki green and I was thinking it wouldn't blend with the Blue so I went down the lighter color path. I have seen that kitchen picture everywhere on almost every blog I read. Everyone loves that kitchen I think because it represents a "real" kitchen makeover that we all can relate too. Because no matter how much I want my kitchen to look like the hundreds of inspiration pics I have, unless I start over and have tons of money, it won't ever be. But that pic gives you encouragement that you can make over existing not so special cabinets and make them look fabulous. Thanks for the encouragement. You are right all the F&B colors are beautiful. I'm in love with that paint. I just painted my dining room walls, crown and base boards with Light Blue and it is gourgeous. The kitchen connects to it and that is why I pulled the light blue into the island. If you have any other suggestions throw them my way since it sounds like you are a fellow F&B fan. I have most every color in a sample pot. And I don't feel one bit guilty about it because I have been using them to paint furniture with....See More!!Oil Based Stain Out of clothing!!
Comments (16)Thanks so kindly all! Not sure the talc did any good but I had already wet the stain before putting power on it. Next I tried straight acetone. It did take some of the oil colorant out but not enough. Right now it's got Dawn on the two spots. I have a kick-but* auto (interior) spot remover that is a miracle product. I'll try that next. I'm sure the oil is gone by now. If nothing works, I'll call the store to see if they can find one this late in the season. I kinda doubt they can. But they're used to me calling and trying to find the exact shirt or one like it in different colors. If I really really like it, I'll buy an extra. For those that were wondering "why is she using stain in her favorite shirt?" Well, I wasn't really. I let the grandkids use the extra stain on large box that DH's new sink came in. Normally I would put a cloth over the lid before I started hammering it close. I didn't :(...See Moreotis_proamateur
