As a GM to a 5 yr old the problem I see is your DD not being able to easily use it when she wants to work on projects such as coloring, painting, crafts, etc.
What are the chances of the legs being shortened on the table you're considering?

There are more people who dislike high top tables than those who like them. DH and I will wait 30 minutes at a casual restaurant rather than sit at one.

There have been several discussions on GW about this topic. You can do a search for them. I use google to search since it usually yields better search results.

Ugh, upon further questioning she admitted that one of the chairs was wobbly. I'm really not in to getting something that needs work. It's a pretty new set, maybe 4 or 5 years old so wobbly isn't good. Paint and cosmetic stuff I enjoy, actually repairs I don't have time for.

I did rescue some cute vintage chairs from the dumpster the other day. I planned to paint and reupholster them to sell, maybe I'll find a table and just use them. I wasn't sold on keeping them because they appeared a little delicate for family with kids but in retrospect, they are probably 100 years old and not wobbly, so I guess they must be pretty sturdy. :)

Also, any chair for a high table won't work anywhere else....unless you enjoy "perching".
At my stage in life, every holiday there seems to be more at the dining room table, and I pull chairs from the kitchen table and the family room table....as well as from the desk!
