I like the desk that has all the storage space, but both are really nice looking. I'd have to sit at them before making a decision. Have you checked out consignment stores?

Have you checked the height on on the PB teen desk? If it works then I'd choose it because of the storage and well it's just cuter.

I agree with annz about seeing them in person. I think it really depends on how much usable work space you need. I like all the drawers in the first one for storage, but those top drawers might get on my nerves if I wanted to spread papers out but couldn't. They're both nice pieces.

I don't have a Pottery Barn Teen store here. Also, I believe the Target Shabby Chic one may be sold online only (can't remember from when I looked at it this morning. My daughter has a desk from Pottery Barn and it seems like a good quality. I think there's maybe $90 difference in the price, which really isn't that much. I'm leaning toward the first one, and as some have said, the drawers are nice. I believe both desks are just about the same size, with the PBT one maybe being a few inches deeper than the other one.

Chickadee2, those top drawers that you're talking about is listed as a separate "hutch." I wouldn't buy that anyway, because as you said, I'd like to spread out stuff on the desk without that taking up room.

I also agree that you should see it in person. Both desks look great, and of course the PBTeen desk gives you lots more storage which is always a good thing. I say see it in person not only to see how comfortable it is for you, but you may also find that you do not like having the storage area at the top of the desk because it limits the amount of workspace you have. I say this, because I once had a desk similar to the PBTeen one, and I found that it bugged me because my laptop screen could only be pushed so far back, and I found working on the laptop very difficult because there was just enough depth on the workspace for the laptop to sit, and no room for my wrist and arms. I eventually got rid of it. I do not want to discourage you because it is a great looking desk, but you should consider its limited workspace. Try to find it in a store, sit on it and even bring your laptop to see how comfortable you will be when working. You said that you work from home so I am assuming you will be spending quite some time at that desk therefore you want to be comfortable.

Sorry @Tammy, looks like i was typing while you were posting. Without the hutch, I would definitely say the PBTeen desk.It looks great and has some storage. I would just check the height etc. to see if it is the same as that of an 'adult' desk.

The hutch is a separate piece, so I wouldn't let that weigh. If you find it takes up too much space you can always return it. I think that's a darling desk, but if wouldn't work for me because I don't want to type at desktop level. If that's not an issue for you, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Movinginva, I just checked the Website again and it's actually a bit taller than my current desk, so it's definitely adult-sized.

writersblock, you're right about typing at desktop level. I can't do that either. That's why I've been only looking at desks in which the center drawer is a pullout keyboard tray. I type for sometimes eight hours a day, so I need to be comfortable.

Cool. I didn't realize it had a keyboard tray. In that case, I'd definitely do that one, because it's nice to have drawer drawers, too. (and it's so cuuute!)

Since you're not getting the hutch and it's got a pull out tray, I'd get the PB one. It would look pretty in a bedroom.

Though the hutch is pretty I think you're very wise not to get it since you'd be using it as a computer desk. The hutch, in my opinion, would work best if it was being used as a vanity or writing desk.

tammy518, join the separated but living under the same roof club. I too got my girly girly room and I'm having a blast decorating it. Even though he and I have to cross paths, my bedroom is a room of peaceful dreams. Not trying to hijack the thread but I wish there was a SBLUTSRC!

Good luck in your pick. Make sure you get exactly what YOU want - my only advise would be to get as many drawers as possible.

i think the pottery barn desk is cute, but the storage looks really minimal!! i would look into 'real' desks(larger, deeper and with more usable drawer space) if i was working from home...then again, i need to spread out when i do something and 'need space'!

Tammy, OT and you didn't ask, but please be sure you talk to a lawyer before moving out of the home. There can be hugely negative legal ramifications to doing that.

As for the desks, I like them both. The second one appeals to me and I have an antique cherry one that is similar (two smaller drawers rather than the one large drawer), but it does depend on how much storage you need.

Well, as far as storage goes, I would need more (which is why I have a boring standard wall-of-office), but certainly there are people today who don't need to store much other than on the computer itself and a backup drive or two. I envy those who've achieved this. I never will.

Of the two, my vote goes for the PB one without the hutch. Do check not just the height of the desk, but the depth. I find deeper desks to be most practical as you can set stuff along the back and still have space to spread out on front. One thing that would bother me about that desk, is there is not storage for files. Also, if you need to store paper and/or legal envelopes in the drawers, I'd check the inside width of the drawers to see if it can accomodate that.

If you are open to other choices, I've seen similar vintage desks to the PB one on CL. They are usually vanity desks with very pretty lines. Here is one below that I would love in my bedroom.
