I love seeing your closets!! We have his and hers closets in the master, and I'm not satisfied with them (and we haven't even moved in yet). Our trim carpenter suggested a simple layout for rods and shelves, which looks great. Then I asked for shoe storage like rows of cubbies (meaning get more shoes in less space). He put in a slanted shelf along the baseboard. He was so proud of it, I didn't have the heart to tell him that it wouldn't meet my needs. Now, I'm kicking myself because I'm too wimpy to insist that he rip it out and redo it. Also, the floors have been finished now. I'm to the point where I have to pick my battles. Anyway, our best storage plans for our master are to de-clutter before moving in and to keep as much as possible in our huge cedar closet (for out of season clothing and shoes).

Read all you can on the different searches on the laundry forum. Frequent sets that come up that people are very happy with are Speed Queen and Miele. There may be others. Speed Queen is heavy and well made. Old school so not a lot of bells and whistles, but people love that too. Miele is very well built and heavy. They are not the mega machines that are out there. I have a set and am hoping that I get years of service out of them. Both SQ and Miele are supposed to be long lived. Don't get an LG top loading HE unit. I don't know if they still make them. Some of these units have fallen apart while in the spin cycle. Then they made a recall and changed the program on the spin cycle. That was apparently all they did to this defective machine. Now they spin very slow and people have been very unhappy. LG also recommended not to put in some articles of clothing such as rain wear. The only issues with Miele that I am aware of is price, and that the size might not accommodate all bedding sizes. I have a queen bed and am fine with the sheets and pillow covers. A queen comforter should fit but I haven't tried that yet. I am not sure if it will take a King comforter. Do a search on that topic in the forum and you may come up with some helpful information. Something else to consider that is important. Miele, and I am sure others do as well, recommends that front loaders be placed next to a load bearing wall. And in a corner if I remember correctly. This is so you don't have the very high speeds of the machine effecting the joists. You don't want them setting in the middle of the joist system because it will bounce more, like a trampoline. If it goes on cement then perfect. So in your search for machines see the installation instructions they have, to determine placement recommendations. There's no requirement for lighting based on the size of a closet. However, if you do decide to put a light in a closet where clothing will be stored, the bulb must be enclosed. Most fluorescent fixtures work nicely for this purpose.

I much prefer the closet off the bath and easy access from the closet to the laundry. Ours is a walk though closet approx 15' x 7' 6". Doors opposite each other giving DH a space of a bit more than 5' x 7'6" and I have about 7' x 7' 6" on my end, so basically two decent sized, but not overly large walk in closets sharing a 3' walk through between the bath and my office (but steps from laundry). DH slept in this morning. I showered and got ready for the day, put up laundry, and dried a load of towels and put them up all without disturbing DH. During the day, I most frequently access the closet and master bath from my office. Very convenient.
