Living room decorating help,

I am in the process of redecorating my living room. I need some advice. Please feel free to pick apart, offer suggestions.

Currently, the living room is a darker color, and it's too dark for our lifestyle, in fact the whole living room doesn't flow well. Our adjoining walls that attach to the living room are painted Sherin William's Wool Skein.

We are replacing the curtains with these in slate:http://www.jcpenney.com/dotcom/cindy-crawford-style-trivoli-rod-pocket-drapery-panel/prod.jump?ppId=1b784c3&navState=navState-:catId-:subcatId-:subcatZone-false:N-:Ns-:Nao-0:ps-24:pn-1:Ntt-cinday+crawford+curtain:Nf-:action-search&catId=SearchResults

I am looking into this sofa from ballard designs (does anyone have that can review it for me?) I don't know what color would work well, I was thinking natural linen: http://www.ballarddesigns.com/baldwin-corner-loveseat-sectional-slipcover---special-order-fabrics/12501?defattrib=&defattribvalue=&listIndex=8

But what color for the walls/sofa? There is a knee wall separating the family room from the eat in kitchen. I have this rug in mind, since the rug we have currently has lots of black in it, and I am looking to avoid black.

On the wall facing the sofa is a media stand that is large, and a walnut color. I selected a light grey and a light butter color, my other half objected to those two. So maybe something ivory, or light tan, but not SW's wool skein?
