What a nice room! You say your room is too dark, but I notice there aren't any lamps, especially for nighttime. Or are they put away?

In the daytime it looks like it's much brighter because of the windows.

The inspiration sofa is in the same color range as your old sofa so I can't see how it would lighten the room.

Can you show us a picture of the room taken in the daytime?

I think your curtains are what darken the room. To go with something lighter would make a big difference. It is a beautiful room as is, IMO.

Unless you plan to ignore the carpet, which appears to be a pinkish beige, anything with yellow in it, or a color that is too "clean" vs. muted or grayed down a bit, won't work. The pic of the sofa you are considering looks like a greenish gray, which will work with the carpeting, I suggest you order a swatch before you buy it. Have you looked a any pale muted greens or blues for the walls? Otherwise, if you go with a beige, avoid yellow or gold undertones.
I agree, you need several lamps. Is that your husband next to the ottoman? Just kidding.

Take a look at Sherwin Williams smokey taupe, it's the perfect paint to me as it reads a tan gray and adapts to all situations and degrees of light. I had a difficult room too and this did the trick.

Our sofa is too modern for the space, I dislike the shape. I liked how the Ballard design sofas have slipcovers you can change if I decide I want a change in the future. I want something thats a bit more welcoming.

I agree I don't have enough lighting but will be incorporating light into the space. Our carpet is much lighter Than it appears; I will post a daylight picture shortly. I also agree the curtains are too dark, I've ordered the jcpenney curtains in slate, which is a gray and blue color combination. I am hoping to do a caramel, grey, khaki and muted blue color combo.

Does the polyvore sample flow well apart from wall color choice?

I am changing everything but the carpets, eat in kitchen table and media cabinet. I really need help with sofa (am torn between two sofas corner sofa or wedge sofa both at ballard designs and color (natural linen maybe?) and wall color (ivory was vetoed) our adjoining wall color is sherwin williams wool skein and a morning room that is yellow. I already have curtains picked out, jcpenney cindy crawford trivoli in slate. I am getting my carpet in 8x10 from ballard designs the catherine rug for under the table in the eat in. So, my colors are essentially maples, beige, caramels, grays and muted blues.

The polyvore was kind of my overall thought process but then I couldn't decide on a paint color...

I would go with plain possibly textured white curtains, personally. Even slate may be too dark and those look pretty "busy" to me. The ones in your last post look green not slate - are they? The rug looks nice and I think would add interest to the room.

I think all the other items in your idea board look great - but that the curtains jump out as distracting. So that's the only item I would change since you want a light open look. The furniture you pictured in those colors would look nice with white or slightly ivory curtains. The sofa you picture would look great and the rug also will help ground the area.

First I would get light colored drapes...maybe white. I would keep your sofa but put light colored pillows on it. ( no more that three pillows). I would get a coffee table...maybe glass...ottoman is too dark. I would put a floor lamp on one end of your couch and an end table on the other end with a lamp on it. Do you need the sheers? To see how white drapes/curtains would look in your room...take down the dark drapes and see how much lighter your room would look.
