We're not military...and...as an employee of USAA, they get a 10% discount and it was still higher. Update: The past company I was with for 3 weeks....that was the increase in sq footage people. That was fraud. Now this company, the owner emailed, said he got my paperwork I sent where the roofer signed off for USAA saying it was a Class 4 Decra roof(hail proof), but they need him to fill out paper work for THIS insurance company and he refuses. So they can call for a roof inspection, free of charge to do this and that will give me the roof discount, get rid of the $1065 bill. But have they....nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! The agent wants me to agree to stay with his agency before he does anything. Nope. Changing agencies and they can order an inspection. It will take several weeks to clear it all up....but it sounds promising! YAY! Elmer.... YOU were right on THIS one. I was wrong. It was an incompetant agent that just didn't care. She just wanted me to "go away". The 1st agency...well.....that one was fraud.

I'm unsure if organic will help protect us from cancer at some point in the future, but I'm willing to spend a little more money to possibly change the odds. I think most of us know many people or have loved ones with cancer and other diseases. Who knows if they could be from the food we eat that is adulterated? I believe organic methods, from conscientious organic growers, are better for the Earth, the soil, the water, bees and other critters. It also provides a safer workplace for agricultural workers. I think unscrupulous growers expose farmworkers to harmful chemicals and I don't want to support that. I buy local, from small farmers when I can. And from the food co-op and other markets that vet their sources of food. (sorry for the weird formatting. my computer keeps highlighting portions of what I type, usually deleting them, but this post ended up on some weird pinterest page as a picture that I couldn't edit so I had to do a screen shot of the first part in order to post it without having to retype it all)

Just catching up with this saga. Very happy you got most of the money back. I'm really surprised your agent didn't catch this. Even 10 years ago when I worked as a agent I kept a list of the wiring instructions for each title company in town. Title companies refused to email directions. It was always a fax or a call. We were also under strict instructions from the broker to have buyers verify the instructions with the title companies via a call. My daughter and son-in-law closed on their first house a few weeks ago. I stayed out of it unless they asked for my advice (and they did), with ONE exception. I told them both to verify the account number with the title company via a call. Scammers will insert themselves into an email thread and send the directions with a different account number. Sounds like what happened here. Just super happy for you that it worked out. Good luck on the reno.

If a debit card gets compromised and transactions are charged fraudulently, that is YOUR money from your checking/savings account that is gone. Yes, presumably your bank will put the money back in your account....you know, at some point, once they believe you and get around to it. :) If your credit card gets compromised, that's the credit card issuer's problem. Yes you still have to call and report the fraudulent activity - but in the meantime, none of your actual cash in your actual bank account is gone while it gets sorted out. I have never even owned a debit card, for this reason. It's just not worth it to me. I get points on my credit card (which means cash back for me, yay!), and the bill is paid in full every month. So the credit card company is literally paying me to use their product. I've had 2 or 3 fraudulent charges hit my credit card over the years, all of which were easily resolved on my end - and none of "my" money was tied up in the process. Win/Win/Win. :)
