I love a banquette too, but I don't think this one fits your space. It looks too big and tall for the space and seems to blocks the slider and family room. It might have worked if you had a solid wall to place it against and it wasn't blocking the other room. Sorry, but I think it ruins what looks like a very nice kitchen & family room.

Totally agree with chispa. A banquette isn't appropriate for your space. They belong against walls or under short windows.

Ditto. I kept thinking you were going to say it was just sitting there temporarily but apparently that is its intended location? Sorry, but it really does not work.

I agree with the others...it looks to be blocking the sliders...

If you really want a banquette, then perhaps just get a straight one that can be used like a room divider with the living area, replacing the sofa table...

Thank your for your honest comments, I was afraid of that! We have an unfinished basement and it could be used down there in an eventual bar area. However, I like the shape of the table and the functionality of the granite top. What do you think about keeping the table, with either one piece of the banquette, or none with just a set of chairs? Thank you!

It's not the usual placement for a banquette in a home, but that's only due to space limitations. You see free-standing banquettes in large commercial areas. If you like it, I say keep it there until you tire of the look.

The table and banquette look fine together. The chairs with their curves don't quite go with the straight lines of the banquette. Maybe IRL they help link the two rooms. Maybe fabric slipcovers or seat cushions on them would tie them in?

For fabric, I might consider a solid beige/light brown linen look fabric, with the color brought from the drapes. This would be for both the seat and back cushions.

I wouldn't give up on this just because it's unusual.

Oops, meant to add, solid color fabric or the right size stripe to blend with the drapes.

Thanks for your feedback graywings. I have seen lots of pictures on houzz etc. of late with designers using banquettes in non-traditional ways and thought I could pull that off here! However, after having it there for a couple days I do feel somewhat crowded by it. Another motivating factor - had a long rectangular table there that didn't seem to have the cozy feel that I would like while our family of 4 sits there for meals - it had extra table space and chairs that we don't use on a daily basis. I'm hoping the round table will accomplish what I'm looking for in that way. That being said, what style of chair would look best with the table? I have others around the house I can try out.

I would agree with graylings, both about trying it where it is and also covering all the cushions. That blue does not look good against the curtains. A nice darker beige from the curtains would be great.

I like the idea of a darker beige fabric, and possibly some seat cushions on the chairs to match. The pictures I think make it look like it's right up against the sliders, there's actually a couple feet behind it. Also don't like how my kitchen photographs in these nighttime photos! Very undecided now...my kids do like it. Will probably play around with the positioning a little more, maybe try a semicircle with equal sides in reference to the slider. I have it positioned the way it is now because it's the best view from the sink/island area where I spend a lot of time.

Maybe I will post pictures of the whole room to give you a better idea, but will probably not be able to do so until tomorrow. Lots of dark wood cabinets, creamy white walls. Really was drawn to the idea of this with a couple pillows to add some softness to the room, but if it doesn't work out, it won't be the first decorating mistake I've ever made!

How would it work if you rotated it so that the chair backs are facing the kitchen (opening the view to the windows a bit more)? If not fully positioned like that, then with as much of the back of the banquette toward the fireplace as you can.

Here's a view of the kitchen from the family room. There's an island under the three pendants. So far this feels to me like the best arrangement, it's centered on the door.

Try it where that leaning shelf is. It';s just so large for the space and blocks so much of the room that I'm afraid it will need to go downstairs. The round table though, that works.

The back is lovely. I like Olychick's idea - the banquette would serve as a room divider.

The back of that thing is fab! For that very reason, I'd go with the room divider arrangement.

Can it just float in the center of the space between the window wall and the wall with the leaning shelf, facing the kitchen with the beautiful back toward the family room?

It can't go on the wall with the leaning shelf, there is a door next to the shelf. I will try the floating/divider idea with the back towards the family room...

I was going to suggest placing it right in front of and centered on the door. Do you have a picture of it straight on? If not placed there I would place it perpendicular to door/window - as a room divider as has already been suggested.

I'm not expert but I think it is too tall and the scale is too large for the room and the kitchen I see. It's overwhelming the whole space. It looks like you are in the middle of a reno and have been ripping a built in out of some other room.

Love the back and the whole idea, but I think this one is just too big. Sorry and good luck with it!

It is really very nice and I hope you manage to use it. In that last photo, can you pull it around to the left (photo viewer's left) so that the back is centered in the photo? I realize that would leave the entire back facing the family room, but it is so nicely finished I think it would look fine unless it is just too crowded.

I agree with kswl. In front of the door is not a "finished" look. As a room divider it could work. I love it with your table.

The banquette is gone! I really appreciate all of your input, it was very helpful in making my decision. The pedestal table with granite top came with the banquette. I kept the table, and got rid of the banquette. It was just too big and tall, and made us feel crowded.

I'm really happy with the table and think it's the perfect size and shape for the kitchen, so all was not lost. I think it looks almost custom made for the kitchen, the wood color is that similar.

You won't believe what I did with the banquette...returned it to the CL seller! I spent a lot of time thinking about what to do with it that would not involve too much work for my husband, who is very patient with my decorating projects. Felt very dumb doing so, but called the guy up and said if you are willing to come and pick the seating up, you can have it to resell. His neighbor wanted, it so he came and got it already. (You can imagine it was not easy to move) I am convinced that the table and granite top are still a deal for what I paid. I think I will be staying off of Craigslist for a long time...

That is a very interesting turn of events! The table does look great in your eating area next to the kitchen. I love a round table. It seems that you can always squeeze one more at the table with that shape. I'm curious, tho. Are those your chairs that are in the pictures or did they come with the table and banquette?

They are my chairs, Pottery Barn, that will work for now.

You are VERY lucky the seller took it back. As beautiful as it was, it didn't see to 'fit' the space. I had my heart set on having two settees, but never found any that were high enough as regular chairs, and didn't want to spend $$$ on custom. ;o)

Yes, I really lucked out. He was a nice guy. After he came to pick it up, we realized he left one of the wood parts on the driveway and had to come back...it was like the CL transaction that would never end! I will post an updated picture soon.
