I either need affirmation or reality check, should I get this??

Here's a picture of my bedroom with my "winter quilt" and "summer quilt". The pics are a little old, I've moved the cedar chest, removed the small table by the chest, gotten new bedside lamps...but the rest is pretty much the same. I thought I was set even though my summer quilt always looks pale and a little small after I get used to the red one which I got last year from LLBean with a little help from you guys. Now today I got the new Pottery Barn catalogue and fell in love with the duvet cover on the front. I've always had quilts or comforters, never a duvet cover. But don't you just buy a duvet and stuff it in? Anyway, what do you guys thing of this for my room? Do I need it? lol Would it be a good summer choice? What about my off white dust ruffle, does that work? Is it too much like the red quilt? Or am I just nuts and the catalogue has me drooling? I'd love to know what you all think. Thanks!

My breath has been taken away....it's beautiful! It would be hard to resist and I would justify buying it anyway necessary until it arrived on my doorstep.

I have a PB duvet cover and love it slipped over my feather comforter (I also have a folded quilt at the foot of the bed, I love covers). Anyway, my duvet is crisp and nice- and washably practical.
I love the colors on the duvet you chose, it will bring a splash of color to your room.

Thanks so much! This really helps loosen up my thinking. The door-to-master idea came from my contractor, and it's not something I'm particularly attached to. Omitting it would leave better wall space in the master, too, which would allow for a little sofa nook. So.... The common thread in the ideas above is to put the toilet in the upper right corner. I like the arrangement, but was worried about having a toilet right by a window. The toilet would be on a wall that's only 12" back from the edge of the window; the bottom edge of the glass on that window is only 30" off the floor. The glass is obscured, and I wouldn't have any problem with this personally, but do you think future owners/buyers would be having a "what were they thinking?" moment? (I'm not overly concerned with resale, but I don't expect to ever re-do this bathroom again, so I don't want to completely ignore resale.) weedyacres: I've got 40" in front of the shower for door-swing, but I do like the idea of French doors. I was thinking a fixed/sealed panel of glass would help contain the water better. Do you feel like your shower is more prone to water escaping when you have 2 swinging doors? annie: love your whole room, and the vanity arrangement is great. I can see how that would work really well in my space, so thanks a bunch for taking the time to post pictures. I was going to change our hallway door to swing out or be a pocket door in order to avoid the challenge you describe of the door hitting the person at the vanity. But maybe with a buffer zone I wouldn't have to. livewire: on moving the shower - that is where I had it originally, so I'm partial to that idea. Just wondering, how deep does a linen closet need to be? If I do a fairly shallow one (about 12" deep), I can preserve an extra foot of space in the adjacent bedroom, which would be lovely.

"Interesting "Trend" since they have been using induction in Europe for many many years. They do not have as affordable natural gas and electricty as we do and I suspect they have more laws dealing with the efficiency of appliances, lighting, and autos. I know in Holland many of their cars are Dual fuel in order to cut down on petroleum imports. Of course California is trying to catch up with them, we already have laws here and more in 2012 and 2014 that due to "Energy legislation" written into them, We will eventually Kiss Incandescant lights (including Halogen and Xenon) goodbye. I suspect eventually they will not only go after Electric Appliances that gulp a lotta electricity but eventually they will get around to gas and propane--who knows how long but I would not put anything past our "Idiots" here. And other States will be copying Calif's examples---you can bank on it. We watch The Food and the Cooking channel a lot, more and more of those shows are going to induction cooktops. So, I don't think it's a Fad or a passing Trend. I think it is the future, I can understand ones fancy for the "Old Stuff" I have 2 Dodges, a 59 and a 64 and I have a blast with them, but for everyday driving, efficiency, safety etc etc, We drive the Honda. As folks have mentioned, you won't just be paying for the gas, you will be paying for removing the heat it throws into the kitchen at least in the hotter months--now maybe you get some of that back in the winter? Anyway, I think the correct view of Induction is, "It is the future" not a passing trend or fad. The fact that your appliance people aren't "Hip" to it or some "Chefs" (other Chef's are) should not weight all that heavily in your purchasing decision. Old saying (yea another one), "You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks" but we learned a new "Trick" Induction. We Love it, Fast (nothing can beat it boiling) controllable, efficient and last but not least, nothing comes close to it in "Ease of Cleaning" (Woff Woff Woff) no not that one GARY!!!!

Momtoblondie. I cant help you with the plans, but I can tell you that a Frost protected Shallow foundation would be a perfect option for you. I have literally done hundreds of of them in the past, dating back to 1987 when I was construction foreman on the crew that built the one of the three test homes for the NAHB Research Center where they did extensive monitoring or that home for several years after the build. To date, I have had zero callbacks that are foundation related. I dont know what part of Minnesota you are in, but you have access to a very good foam supplier relatively close. (no, I am not a salesman for this enterprise, but have used their products) One thing to remember, you will need to allow space for HVAC out of your available above grade square footage, b ut you dont need to allow space for a stairway downstairs, so with a little creativity, you should be able to come up with a compromise. Also, I dont know where in Mn, you are, but if you are anywhere in the southern part of the state, particularly in the South West part. a tornado shelter of some sort should also be in your planning/budget. There are precast boxes that are made for this. Ultimately, if you could sink one of those into the ground within your footprint, that you could access from the main living area, it would be sweet. Most times, they are done outside of the building.. but close.. Good luck with your plan seeking. The compressor is certainly not running. By the way. I have done repairs to my AC in the past. As a matter of fact I changed the contactor about 2 months ago because it went bad. With the fan running on the outside unit, I noticing there was a buzz sound followed by a click, which shook the red and black wires coming from the house to the contactor. So it appears to me as if the thermostat is trying to send a signal to the compressor to kick on but I feel that the capacitor is possibly bad, which is keeping the compressor from kicking on. Below is a picture of my capacitor. It looks like it might be leaking. What do you think?

I'm feeling my resistance weaken. I'm a sucker for paisley and have been since I was a kid. And no it's not what I've been looking for. I wasn't looking for anything, they just stuck the catalog in my mailbox to TEMPT me :-) It worked *sigh*. Thanks for all your feedback. Sometimes I just like to run it by my online committee in order to make sure there's not something I'm missing. Y'all are the best!

Since you would be using the duvet cover for your summer bedding, you don't even have to buy a duvet. (There! I saved you money! Now you can buy it.) When I used a duvet cover, I used a down comforter inside during the winter and nothing inside during the summer. It's just like a coverlet, with a big pocket inside ;-).

The duvet cover you show would look gorgeous in the summer with blue or green shams ... You could even find some rusty-red shams and let it take you right into fall. I just love mix-and-match bedding. If you buy it, you have to post a new picture!

You're only going around 'once' in this lifetime....like it, buy it!!!! My husband always said, "you can't take it with you so spend it and the kids can get money just like you and I did, hard work and saving". So there you go, I decided for you, buy it. It's not like you are buying a car or something, can't be that expensive and it is just lovely.

I showed the catalog picture to my DH. He asked if he got a vote. LOL I said umm no the GW committee has already voted and it's unanimous. I ordered it this morning :-)
