lol.....it's the holidays...can't you see the humor?

my sweety pie isn't impressed!

he's wondering what planet I arrived from, about now...lol

today, right after the Christmas Eve dinner, with the entire family and back over to DD's house for breakfast with the grandkids, then down 25 miles to see the other DD and husband, with baby grandgirls..it was back to home.

it started snowing...I got a call from first DD...little boy has a temp of nearly 104...how'd that happen so fast?

it got me to thinking about family, travel, loss, travelers in the terrible delays at the airports and all other issues of the holiday season.

then, I check in here, from time to time, throughout the day..I see the beautiful and creative things all of you have been making...

I try and try to post pictures and to upload pictures..I can't...my computer isn't up to speed..not even up to a Windows 98, so I can only describe ideas and other things.

that got me on a roll....

so, I gotta tell y'all that you have all been an inspiration to me and an anchor, when things go wrong or misdirected or off schedule or off kilter..

whatever happens, there is a place to come home to ....

it's here.

no holds barred..no reason to feel defensive or left behind.

thank you for all of the things you do, in all the different ways you do it.

it's encouraging to be able to be myself, in whatever capacity it is..

now, I also gotta tell you what I have gone and done..lol

I cleared the front room of all Christmas decorations, all but the tree. it's too pretty to toss outside just yet.

it's a beautiful live noble fir and came from the tree farm my honey works at...

I got a hammer and whacked the mantle off of the fireplace!

I razor cut the seal around the firebox, inside the fireplace, I cleaned inside the fireplace

and now, tomorrow, I'll convince him to lift that sucker out of there and will have an old fashioned open pit fireplace, for a full fire, with a regular, conventional screen in front of it...

and the first step to clean the fireplace is to paint it..

that's the first time in all the 26, going on 27 years that I've been here, that I have dared to do such a drastic thing.

I'm tired of playing it safe!

so many of you have shown me it's ok to go beyond the edge of acceptable and mainstream.

I'm toying with the idea of mosaic but need to know the rationality of that part...lol

I want to have real fires in there, so I can't do anything to compromise that part.

If I find out that it's a fine thing to do, then I'll be all over asking for suggestions for designs and comments about the in's and out's of that.

forget the kitchen ceiling

forget the cabinets

forget that I even mentioned glass, for just now.

he thinks I'm weird but at the same time, he's in there, studying the fireplace, while I'm in here posting this...lol

Aaawww, You are such a Sweetie! Ya just gotta come see me and Cindy Loo Hoo! Bring your Sweetie too! We'll grab ya this end! And redoing your fireplace sounds awesome! I hope you do some mosaicing on it, Cindy is redoing hers right now too!

I think about how many times in that 20 year old's life he probably acted out in school and with others and somehow no one was able to help him deal with his anger and hate issues. The Old Testament says not to murder, but Christ expands that when He says that whenever you have hate in your heart, you are murdering, both yourself and others, I think. I didn't respond on the "what roses symbolize" thread, but roses are for me a reminder that there is a God who is creator. There didn't have to be any such thing as a rose with its beauty, fragrance, color. They have comforted me in hard times, encouraged me with their beauty, given me a way to share something valuable and beautiful with others, and taught me about patience. In the same way, in our souls, there doesn't have to be such a thing as kindness or love, but God has given us the ability to be that way. I feel terrible for that broken family the 20 year old came from, the families that lost their children, and the resulting fear and terror that will plague us because of it. Politically I hate what has happened to us as a nation because there is so much hate and anger between the two groups. That's the kind of thing that develops in hearts of people so that they want to shoot each other. I think about all the other kids and people that have those same hate and fear issues and think that for myself, I want always to forgive anyone who hurts me because it can grow into something ugly in myself if I don't. It makes me want to try harder to love those kids and people I'm not crazy about that are all around me so maybe they don't develop into people with those same hate issues. The rose I miss most in winter ? Funny, I miss a climate where the season is longer, but I don't so much miss them in winter because I think and plan a lot during the wintertimes, and anticipation is more than half the fun, anyway. Indulgences? I love to make Christmas table arrangements out of the evergreens all around me and give them to friends. And music ... it's not Christmas without John Rutter's carols and Handel's "Messiah."

Dorothy, I don't like to do housework either. I just consider it a necessary evil and I do it once I run out of gardening and mowing and weedeating chores. Actually, Tim has done a lot more of the mowing and weedeating this year so that I have had more time to deal with the garden and the abundance of produce we get in a rainy year. I sure wish we had more rainy years here! In a drought year I can do most of the mowing and weedeating because the garden doesn't grow as well in a dry year (and, obviously, neither does the grass and weeds). I hope that mowing/weedeating has kept him from being too bored because, with the abundance of rain there's been very few grassfires, and that means the firefighters are getting 'antsy'. Dawn

Since I got my license I've often been the person who drives. I got to the point I was very uncomfortable when I wasn't driving. Much was just that I was fidgety and didn't know what to do with myself while riding. Riding is boring to me. I'm better now and can ride with a good driver but there's so many bad ones out there. I got stuck 20 miles from my car one time when I rode with someone (they left without me) and since then I've always wanted to have my own vehicle. Plus, often, when I "caravan" with others, I've had to help them out when they have car trouble. They wouldn't even carry tools with them or extra oil, antifreeze or wash fluid. I've saved the day countless times by being prepared. I have even been driving myself to the ER when needed. And I know I won't be asking my sister for a ride there if it happens again. Middle of the night, nobody around and she's sitting waiting for the light to change to get onto the freeway entrance ramp! (SMH) I just yelled GO! "Well the light is red!" I told her there's nobody around, it's the middle of the night and we're not going to the mall, we're going to the emergency room so either go, or move and I'll drive. There were also some choice words going through my mind at the time. As I get more crippled in my old age, I will say I've been fortunate with (most of) my friends being very considerate about offering to drop me off at the door or something to accommodate needs when we're out, whether necessary or not. If I'm hurting real bad sometimes I'll take my cripple card so we can park closer. However, I'm about to the point where I'm considering refusing to ride with anyone who has a smartphone unless they've proven themself to be responsible.

Hey, Becky, sometimes YOUR posts just hit the spot, too! This was one of those :) You go girl! Do you know someone with a computer and the savvy to help you post some pics? You KNOW we want to help, and having a visual goes a long way. Way to go on cracking the box that says "you can't" and being willing to begin to at least whisper, "Yes, I Can!" Merry Christmas!

I'm going to visit a favorite pawn shop, later today and see if there's a good upgraded from mine, type of computer harddrive...
all I need is a cd player and no less than windows 98..
I have the cable to upload pictures, which are all on this dumb computer now but they can't go any further than that..
last night, I drug out another boat anchor and hooked it up..I thought it would be better
well, yes and no...it was better but it was from a friend and I could no sooner get into it than to ride a flight to the moon...it was password sensitive!!
I yelled at my boyfriend to open the front door..
I carried ot to the front door and manually threw it out the door, into the snow! it broke all apart and he was standing there, with this 'what the hell?' look on his face!
then he started laughing...
that made me laugh, when I was sooooo pissed at that computer!...
it made for a fun night...he for sure shakes his head and smiles at me sometimes...lol

he also promised I get new speakers, too..

Boy can I identify with that!! (Chucking it out the front door.) Check with 2nd hand stores and any nickle papers to see if there are any comp. to be had. If there is a local college, they might be replacing some of theirs. After Christmas you might find a good one.

it's 7:30pm and we finally came in, from running errands all day...
at the favorite pawn shop, they had 3 table top kinds and two laptop ones.
I don't like laptop, so opted to talk about the other 3...
my guy buys a LOT of tools, generators, electronics and other things...so, the manager talked good business with him..
I got a complete system this afternoon.
all I need to do, is clear a corner and get to work..
it's a slim line type of monitor, too...no boat anchors!

tonight, I'll be calling Dell's 800 #, to reformat it, to suit what I need.
then, it's hopefully going to be a different kind of computer life for me...

gotta go now and get to work on my corner ...

Goodness gracious Seaglassic what have you been up too!! Quite a bit I can see!!! Hope you get that new computer working great!! I am assuming you are trying to mosaic the outside of the fireplace and not the inside right???

Remeber Im not to far away and would love to come help you if you decide to mosaic it!!! I could at least give you pointers!!! You have so many beautiful plates you could probably get that gussied up real pretty with what you already have on hand!!

We went to see a picture of this fire place when you get to be able to load pictures on here. That will be an awesome wip!!!

Er, uh, ya might wanna rethink the taking out of the firebox. I think that may be an important element in keeping your house from burning down!!

that firebox is a Schrader and I bought it from a friend, about 20 years ago..I had another friend put it in and seal it..it's only a metal sheet in the back and sides, so it keeps the fire more contained but wasn't anything that was either already here or even necessary. I don't use it all that much and if the power goes out, with a proper screen, there's plenty enough heat from it...and then there are the generators...plural! lol
he works up in the hills, so generators are a foreman's friend. I do believe he has about 5 of them. not much to worry about in the event of power outage. we could accommodate the neighborhood, I do believe..lol
I liked the look of it, in the beginning but I'm to the point now, of just wanting the fireplace to be more decoration than function.
I"m not so "little house on the prairie" mentality anymore, since I can't be lifting the firewood, like when I burned all the time, when the kids were in school and would come home to a roaring fire. geez, I even used to bake fresh bread, once in a while for them...hot bread, with butter all drizzled over it...,
not so now....I just turn up the heat and curl up on the couch...no afternoon noise, or chaos anymore.
and the dog has relocated to the end of the block, at my oldest son's place..lol
she gets much more attention over there.
it's just me and the chirping birds, during the day. (5 love birds and 1 cockatiel)

lol.....it's the holidays...can't you see the humor?
