Yes, I know I can't take pictures..but here it is

Well, this was a commission "JOB" which I hate doing...but anyway..the grout looks WHITE..but it's actually a sandy orangish color..new word...and they are actually nice looking........not even sure why I'm posting this.. because it's really not a good picture..LOL...but it is what it is!

Gypsy, those are quite bold and make a wonderful trio of art! The top left one looks like a large outlet cover, is that intentional? Too bad the grout color doesn't come through but I guess that means our technology still has a way to grow.
What is your substrate? Are they for hanging?

boredom of filling in Tiger Lilly!
I was wondering, about the substrate too. Are they just the regular switch plate covers? Very Cool Gypsy!

I just wanted to say thanks everyone!! Very informative articles and so much knew stuff you learn each day comming here...I never understood this about bark and wood.. All I can say is thanks! I FINALLY found some! Fir bark... I remebered buying orchards from someone I met in my area over 5 years ago that was growing beautiful and citrus back then, and I remembered him saying someday he was going to sellevery good supply he could think of for orchards and tropicals, to help people be sucessful at these plants. It was a dream of his. I saved his number from then. I called him, and come to find out, he is a big supplier of YES!! "fir bark"...We were both happy to hear from each other besides. He has fine and or small and medium grade...He says it's real real good stuff. He specializes in this bark..NICE ha. Now I am excited. I get a FREE delivery of three bags within the next couple of days... I will take a pic, and you can see if it as nice as he says when I get to using it.... If it is, then I would be willing to tell you where I got it privately, since it can be VERY difficult to obtain this hard to find good stuff..:-) A secret he shared. I asked him how his plants were doing. He said better than ever before, since he waters his plants once a month with, ready? Seltzer water, sodium free.... He explained the benefits in detail, hard to remember...Hummm.. As anyone ever heard of this, watering container plants with seltzer water?

It does sound horrid, and I empathize about lack of sleep (if I don't get enough, I'm worthless). My mother has Restless Leg Syndrome (they make medication for it) and she does not stomp or thud around the house at night (or day). It's just as is sounds, her legs are restless during sleep and might involuntarily kick, jerk or twitch. I was thinking about the LL's perspective, tho. If I had a tenant that was disturbing others, but said tenant told me they had a medical condition that led to frequent need for nocturnal walks, I'd probably find myself in a pickle. Even if I knew the condition, and that symptoms or remedies didn't mesh, I'd still be in a pickle. I know this is a stretch, but say LL keeps after stomping tenant. Stomping tenant could well produce a doctor's letter that says 'my patient needs to walk at night for relief'. That's just something a LL really doesn't want to push, because pushing it hard enough might find them slapped with a discrimination suit or something. But obviously you can't continue to live like this. I'd suggest something along the lines of larke's suggestion. Be sure to let LL know you understand that she might be dealing with a tenant's medical condition, and you respect that. (That will help keep LL from being put on the defensive. A defensive LL is an uncooperative LL.) Then let her know that you are developing health conditions of your own, find that you can't perform your job as expected, find yourself nodding off at inappropriate times, your heart races at night when stomping starts, etc. (Yes, the hassle part of changing units would be as camlan mentioned in 1st paragraph, 12/5 post.) Despite LLs predicament, and upstairs tenant's stomping, you are still entitled to peaceful enjoyment. Hopefully you can get it with some good old-fashioned open communication and a little psychology thrown in when talking with LL.

I didn't mean that she is pining away for him, but you said, "My husband was fooling around with the mother of his other child for years on top of everything to start off. I stayed with my husband because I believe in love and 2nd chances." & I thought you are saying that he was fooling around with the mother of this 8 year old & if he was doing that while he was seeing you, then yes this child saw his parents 'together' at least in some way, unless they were so sly that they hid it from their own child. And even if the mother hates him & is not sad, that does not mean she does not let her son know how angry she is (anger is also a feeling that is much easier to express than hurt, so who knows if she truly hates him or is hurt he finally ended it with her and married you) but I'm sure the child picks up on those feelings because children are little sponges & know more than most people give them credit for. If mommy is angry all the time at daddy, of course it's going to affect how he feels about daddy's house & the new wife, baby, etc. "I think that it's good to be proactive and encourage my stepson to be nice to my son. I don't try to force it upon him. To me to encourage him to love his brother should be a good thing. I agree that yes he is eight and may be frustrated which is understandable. I just don't think that it should be ok that he takes it out on my 2 year old son. If their our any mothers out there you know how you are protective over your children no matter who it might be. If it was my neice , my friend son. I would not stand them to be nasty to my children." If you want to protect your 2 year old, then never allow the 8 year old to be alone with him. It's THAT simple. If dad refuses to acknowledge the problem, then it rests with YOU to protect the baby & make sure he's always in your sight when big brother is around. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be a happy little family, but if he (the 8 year old) does not want that, it is going to backfire to force it. I believe he does know right from wrong & he has anger, resentment issues... maybe from how his mother expresses, directly or inadvertently. He is manipulative if he changes face when dad comes around the corner & I agree with Sylvia that is a dangerous child that does that. (reminiscent of "the good son") Lovehadley has a great point that leaving is probably not the best idea since the child only comes over every other weekend and leaving could place the younger child in jeopardy when he would visit. The bottom line is that unless mom & dad are willing to work together to find out why their son is so aggressive & deal with it, then the only solution is to never allow your baby to alone with him. Yes, he was part of the package as you & your kids were part of a package, but YOU and your DH accepted each other's package... the kids don't get a choice. He didn't choose the package so how can you expect him to accept you as you've accepted him. You are the adult.

After the bath, a couple shriveled, clearly not liking it. But it's definitely satisfying to see white dots floating in the water. I left them out to dry and started to pick more stubborn bugs from some of my plants. Most of them were motionless, so I assumed the soap bath did the trick. So I left the rest alone. Nuked all the soil of new pots with boiling water, followed by a 4 minute cook off in the microwave. I set them off to dry for a few days, and I tried to pot them up last night. And guess what? The mealies SURVIVE!! Except for those that I had picked on, the rest still had tiny bugs crawling in them. You can call them eggs, larvae whatever, I got fed up. Took out my tub of rubbing Alcohol dunk half a containerful with more dish soap, and yanked everything into the concoction. Rinsed them into another tub of water, and set them off to dry again. This time I inspected every single one. Miraculously, no white stuff or survivors. I'm guessing it worked. The poor remaining plantlets all don't look good. I guess only time will tell if these all can be saved. Will continue to update... Oh, and I also found infestations on my new jades too, thankfully I caught the spread and am now containing it, or at least am trying to..

Gypsy I like them. They sure spark ideas. So PLEASE tell. Are they done on regular light switch covers? Details gal!!

LOL I can see it now. About 100 of these things are going to be showing up. Sheese wish I had thought of this sooner. What a great craft show sale item. Unique. Not too expensive to make. Just a few VERY COOL things can make a big impact.

OK One Two Three GO GO GO Lets see how many of us are going to do some of these?? Hehehe The answer to the small Christmas gift for my Mom and Aunt. The only two I do Christmas for.

And the idea of the mosaic light switch covers for gifts is a great one! You know what would be cool, too - is to make your own switch covers to mosaic - and make them different shapes to go with different decors. I cut a cactus shape out of a thin piece of plywood, and then painted it with a fleck spray paint to go on a wall I had just decorated and painted. After I got the wall all pulled together, and stood back and looked at it, the white switch plate just stood out like a sore thumb...so I did the cactus shape - and it just kind of "goes" with the wall now. Mosaic-ing them in glass would be soooo classy!!

Oh, and I used my scroll saw to cut the shape. Here's a picture of the wall and a close-up of the plate:

Guess I should of, but didn't explain what they are...just your really cheap switch covers from Lowe's.........I call them mini-art for the wall? Anyway....just used GEII and that's it..........really bad pictures.......I'm not handy with a saw or anything that would be that creative...I would be without limbs for sure...fingers, toes, whatever......so admire you that are talented in that respect..I'm NOT

Here's one that I did few months ago for myself..it's on a wooden switchplate, and much easier to work with than the plastic ones....scrap stained glass...Hey Lyndalu....you're gonna have plenty of that lucky girl! And, I really love the cactus plate that you created......*sigh*..and here is a picture of my dog I mosaiced..he's mean..very very mean! Ribbit is his name.

I Love the dog! I had to blow the picture up to make sure he wasn't really mosaiced! Did you make those masks? they are really cool!....oh! and the switch plate is awesome! I'm going to play with a few of mine this weekend. I really need the satifaction of finishing something right now!

Oh, this is great. I've been thinking of doing them off and on for a while now. I have these plain plates in spots they're they covered old electrical"holes"..going to do them too! LOL

Those are great, and I'm thinking when I go to HD to get the stuff for the cement for my toadstool I'll get a couple to play with gluing & grouting. I tried painting some with acrylics (painting a little scene) but the paint didn't hold up.

Thanks for the inspiration.

LOL LOL LOL I bought a couple light switches today. My next project is going to be them for my Mom and Aunt. Hope I can do it.
Wish I could have found wooden ones but there were none to be had.

The one I did for my bathroom was awful. Don't like working that small. Still interested in the technique on the masks.

I can't take credit for the masks...these were done by an artist here in So. IL....he uses the same mold for all the faces..calls them "the faces of Eve," and he just tweaks them all different....I need to find out how he did make them if he will share this info? Sometimes artist who marry their passion with money do not want to share! He hasn't been back to the gallery that I bought them from in about a year.....he's about 50 miles away. I need to follow-up on inquriing about this technique...sorry Slow..I'll get on it Monday...gallery closed till then!

I missed this thread somehow!!! We just redid our bed room and I bought all the outlet covers at lowes and they were the wood ones. I had thought of mosaicing them but decided not to. Now Im kinda thinking I should have, yours look so fun!!!!

Thanks, all, for the inspiration and great looks. I bought a plain metal light switch cover to do and it's still laying here so maybe now I will put it toward the front of my to do list. (Right after my medicine cabinet that is staring me in the face right now.)
