ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, patience my dear!

I keep telling myself this, because just a bit ago, while I was talking to a friend of mine...

she was telling me about a sewing machine she found on craig's list..it's an old Kenmore, with all of those cams and things..

I said........"oh my gosh, let me call you right back..I need to check craig's list and see if there's anything new today, for stained glass"

since there hasn't been, each time I've checked, I had hopes of something...anything....

first on the new list, from late in the afternoon yesterday..

(I never checked it last night, cuz I was painting my porcelain pieces, getting them ready for a second fire)

anyway, first on the list, is "rainbow of colors.....

stained glass, from finished projects...great for someone who wants to do mosaics........."

I called and NO ONE has called about this ad, even by this time and it's late in the morning now!

she said she was just leaving one dr. appt and headed for another one, and yet another one after that but by 3pm, this afternoon, I can go meet her at her place.

she said if anyone calls after me, she's going to let them know that it's spoken for.

she's taught classes for the past 8 years and is wanting to downsize her studio because she's moving to Tucson next week...

I read about the fabulous finds a few of you have gotten but never did expect I would run across such a thing myself.

in the course of conversation, she also mentioned the studio and how many grinders and other equipment there is.

this stash of stained glass is listed for $ one dollar ($1)

I sat at my desk last night, just cutting up that first 5 pounds, from the local glass store..

then the ebay purchase and now this!

I was telling her about the table that nicethyme made for that auction and she was thoroughly impressed!

she said that's the best way to have your work appreciated.

she designs an image on a computer and has the customer see it and make changes, then does the work.

she said she likes to get into people's minds, to see what they see, before it's done.

she's a very interesting person and it's too bad that just when I come across her, she's in the process of leaving.

I'll be sure and ask if she has a website.

oh, I suppose 5 hours isn't all that hard to wait!

yeah, convince myself of that....

Patience is the key ! I've been stalking Craig's list to find some glass ,too. No Luck yet . I even thought of putting a "want ad" in there - just to see.

Enjoy being up on cloud 9 .... ! LOL

Today I was going to remove my Climbing CS. I need a spot for Rosette Delizy, and in its 2nd spring CS gave lots of growth and lots of blooms but they have all balled. I'm assuming he prefers hot humid weather and will start to do better soon. But I don't feel like doing battle with his thorns since I have procrastinated with a trellis, and he's flopped all over everywhere. He was next on my list today, but I ran out of steam. I have a place to move him not on my property where he'll have a chain link fence, and I can still see him. My body isn't looking forward to it, but I guess he'll find a new home - not the trash can. Redsox, if you did a search, maybe my post from last year came up. My CS just seemed to sit and do nothing. The half a dozen flowers he made balled, and I was beginning to wonder what was up with him. To date I don't remember seeing a normal, perfect flower on mine, so I guess patience is the keyword. Oh, I just noticed you were posting about the bush. I have a bush, too, in the ground since March. He seems to be "doing nothing", too. Have faith. He'll be fine. Sherry

yes, well I am pretty tolerant towards BS and mildew (not at all for rust but it is a rarity, by and large). I can ignore yellow spotty leaves because they are in the allotment, always a lot going on, everything jammed together, it is easy to overlook flaws....but even I draw the line at the total vileness of these roses at present. Phillippa is a mass of completly leafless canes with clumps of rotting brown lumps one the ends of them - which are up in the air somewhere as this is the epitome of an upright rose. Liliana/Claire is just.....nasty. In fairness, not all Austins are poor for me....but none of them are healthy either. It is an expensive crapshoot which I have neither the patience or the money to play. I think a period of introspection and some careful research is in order instead of my usual enthusiastic ordering of completely unknown plants. I know there are roses out there which do perform brilliantly in East Anglia because I have a few. Having said that, I am waiting on a rose I have never once set eyes on and am prepared to take a risk for Dawn Crest, a little beauty from California (I know, a wild hope!!)

"when I clicked on "help" (which, b.t.w., I had never even NOTICED before, it said: "A.T.&T. Yahoo HELP" .. guess that means that is my "CONNECTION" .. right? RIGHT??" If you were to click the "ATT Yahoo Help" line, you will be directed to an ATT HELP webpage, where they have a troubleshooting guide. You type in your problem in the form of a key word, then it will try to solve said problem for you. As per the idea that ATT Yahoo browser is part of your "MY CONNECTION", or is related to being a device that connects your computer, your modem to your dsl phoneline, or to the internet, no, this is not the case. Realize that the DSL modem that ATT provided (or maybe you provided your own)connects your computer to the dsl feed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Even if your computer is off, the dsl feed is still comming in to your home and is ready to go as soon as you turn it on. ATT Yahoo gives you the browser, or "browser enhancement" when you sign up for the service because they want you to use it. They make money from advertizing. It comes with Yahoo! as its default homepage, and most people will just go with whatever the default homepage might be. When you sign up to dsl, they will tell you when the "switch" will be turned on from the phone company. After it is turned on, you hook up your modem to your computer and to your phone jack (with the little dsl filter box), and bam, that's it. Your computer is ready to go online. I believe that there may be a matter of setting up a LAN setting in the Network Connections area in the control panel, very simple, something that ATT will privide the instructions for, or walk you through, but none of the software they give you has to be installed. update.........
I met up with the man, who has been teaching stained glass for the past 8 years, at the same store, where I got the first 5 pound grab bag of scrap pieces.

the ad read $1 and I thought it meant that but in actuality, his wife meant it to be $1 per pound...still very reasonable.

so, after having a tour of his studio, which is 90% packed up, for them to move to Tuscon in about a week, I was able to see the bins he had of the scraps.

very nice colors and pieces...they were good sizes and none too big...all suitable for mosaic pieces or even scraps for stained glass projects, which I don't do.
he didn't know how many pounds there were, cuz he didn't know if anyone wanted just a little bit or all of it, so he got a bathroom scale and set the first bin on it...
it was more than 60 pounds and the second one was just close to the same..
they were divided up into main color catagories..
blues, greens, misc and clear, mixed with the opaque white.

I'm thinking while he's weighing....man, there's no way I can get all of this..it's adding up to over $120....I just don't have it to spare...
he stands up and says that he's gotten good deals on glass in the past and wants to be able to help someone get started in working with stained glass, in any capacity...and it's suitable for mosaics.

then, he says that the lowest he dare go is $50....
done deal.........you betcha!
so, he huffed and puffed, while he carried each bin to the trunk of my car...carefully set them in there and we continued talking.
he showed me the cabinet he has the main large pieces in...
holy cow!!...he said there's about fourteen hundred dollars of inventory in there!
absolutely stunning glass of all colors in the slots...some were 4' tall....
wow, it was a small shop of it's own...
there was one sheet I liked, in a subtle sherbet sortof color..he said he never liked it and just gave it to me...
that was a freebie...

I'm totally thrilled with it all and he said that as they pack, if anything should crack or break or he decides to just not take it..he's got my cell# already programmed into his cell #...and he gave me a few quick tips on how to get a pattern from the paper to the glass, without losing the pattern of the glass underneath..things I wouldn't have even had a clue to ask about.
his daughter will be setting up a website, after they get all moved.
anyway, that's the latest update....

Fantastic!size>

I'm getting back into stained glass now that I'm retired, I have a few things I've had on the back burner for a long time now. Wishing you gorgeous stuff from your treasure.

and it just keeps getting better...

the first 5 pounds at the glass shop
then, Craig's list, which I had weighed today, at the recycle center....it was 184 pounds but gotta deduct the trolly it was on....
and today, when I got back from my art class, the ebay purchase arrived...50 more pounds.

I'm getting out the old front door, from the carport, with the carvings in it, for the front room and have it as a long work table.
I need table legs, from HD, to be attached, so I can have it at a very comfortable height to sit at...

there's the glass door to set on top of it and after that..it's all mine to hunker down for the winter and begin to expand in my self expression and contentment!!!

I had the best art class today, too..
learned some wonderful techniques in technical drawing and how to apply it to abstract and detail in paintings. using a drafter's pen.

it's amazing how this late in life, it's finally all so worth it...
I remember days, that just overlapped each other and I thought there would never come a time for me to feel free.

oh, and I got my first cut finger already...
with a knife, in the excitement of opening one of the boxes...lol that counts, doesn't it?

Wow Becky, That is just way to awesome!! Now you can start cranking out them projects!!!! You got such a find. I've only looked on Craigs list once and found nothing!!! Look at you all this glass in one week!!!!! Go girl go.......
