Yes you can make it sanborn. If you railroad the fabric, you'll need three yards. Fold the fabric length wise so that you have a 104 inch run then cut the width 42 to 44" inches wide (depending on the thickness of the foam you use) Upholstery fabric (that's I suggest you use) runs 54' wide, so you'll have about 10 to 12" x 108" left over for throw pillows. You can either use foam or stuffing. Turn you fabric inside out and sew along the back, turn you fabric to the right side and slip your foam in, if it's too loose, sew it tighter. Then sew one end and slip your foam in again. The other end you can pin tightly, then hand sew close. I did a cushion for my piano seat this way, and got a nice tight fit. Be use to pick out a fabric (pattern) that lends itself to railroading. Also you may have to glue together the foam cushion to get a 108" foot run. They sell foam adhesive in an spray can. The chairs aren't currently upholstered, they are wood? Is the wood something you would consider painting to fix the scratches and make them last? Painted chairs can look great. I think some of the chair pads may come with velcro tabs instead of strings. Would that work?

LOL grittymitts, While waiting .......Hours .... for you KTers to wakeup, I tryed placeing it sidways and that way drags depending on which way you get on the stool. I'm trying to avoid a BUTT print here------- sure I could just not sit on it! LOL Lilliepad, LOL in my mind the "down" direction of a chair would be going toward the back. I remember the torture of learning how to deal with naps and plaids in sewing. So far having the nap pushing toward the back seems to be w/o problems.

I don’t know if you ever finished your kitchen, but in case you did not, and in case others come across this thread, I thought I would tell what we did. We remodeled our kitchen using a 24 year-old high end kitchen from a kitchen charity reseller (Green Demolitions). It had a huge island that I could fit into our space if we did not have a kitchen table. I have lifelong knee problems and could hardly rise off a regular chair height, so moving to 24” kitchen stools sounded like a solution. We went with the island, with space for four to comfortably sit. It turns out that my knees don’t much like sitting on stools, either. We are a family of two and take our meals in our recliners, anyhow. The issue became how to have people over and sit comfortably. Then I discovered convertible furniture of Italian design! They make coffee tables that rise up on scissor legs to dining height with tops that swivel 90 degrees and open like a book, doubling their size. There are other designs as well, all creating full size dining tables. We found a leather sofa at Macy’s that has a seat height of 20” and we keep our old dining chairs in the basement to bring out when people visit. Our family room is now easily and quickly converted to a dining room with banquette seating. Here is where I got our table.
