I've been where you are...you can't believe the number of different colors our rooms have been painted over the years. And too often, with no consideration for overall flow or cohesiveness. I finally went back this spring and painted the entire downstairs in BM Ivory Tusk and am thrilled with it - but then, our floors and trim are all very dark wood. Hard to say what color would do well in your house without knowing what color your trim is. Re: the kids' rooms, I would humbly suggest that you paint the entire room the color of their choice, as this is an area that you can really have fun with color, and no one expects kids' rooms to match the rest of the house.

Victoria, you are probably right, my twelve year old who is typically easy going pronounced my plan horrible and said it would look like we forgot to paint one wall.

Trim is white 5" baseboard. I am thinking of Bennington Gray and Beach Glass ...I know I want Beach glass in the powder room and maybe kitchen but where to stop and start?

Will there be wall space above the kitchen cabinets? If so, you can paint Beach Glass up there as well as in the powder room.

You say there is a lot of light, does that mean windows on several sides of each room? Even if the windows are large, if they are only giving you light from one direction you have to be aware of the shadows that will be cast and thus making your ivories or creams look dirty. I figured this out when I was working on my bedroom that has a huge atrium window. I finally "got it".

I would look at the BM Affinity colors, they really are designed to work in an open space because they play so nicely together.

Have you ever considered hiring a professional color expert? As Maria Killam had said one time, she could have done a color consultation for someone cheaper than all the money they spent on samples.

There will be some wall space above the kitchen cabinets. The beach glass would be pretty there. The ceiling is 9'. My lowers will be black painted (trying to keep the existing granite which is dark, Verde butterfly I think) and I will replace the uppers with 42" wood cabinets with a rope detail with black glaze.

The entire back of the house is windows and the staircase has bay windows both on the landing up to the 2nd floor and the landing down to the basement and the risers are open so there is tons of light. The front of the house has a large window above the foyer and the living room and dining room both have large central windows.
