Repairing old furniture

Cannot find another forum that seems better suited to the topic. We have some really old furniture, not necessarily valuable antiques, but the drawers have in some cases worn away at the bottom of the sides from all those years of use, The wear is not even, resulting in a curved bottom edge of the side. The wear is as much as 1/4" in some cases. For the most part, I can conceal the repair so that it is visible only if the drawer is removed. I am considering using waxed paper as a release and clamping wood to the sides of the worn areas, then using a filled epoxy to restore the original size and shape to the bottom edges of these drawers. I know the "experts frown on certain repair methods, but to me usability is an important concern also. Your suggestions?
