Light over Dining Room Table... how far should it hang?
Comments (2)I found this piece of info somewhere on the web and have had it clipped in my notes files for a while: Another common dilemma is determining the height to hang a chandelier over a dining room table. This also can vary depending on the size of the light fixture and the height of the ceiling. In general,in a room with 8' ceilings the chandelier should be hung approximately 28" to 32" above the table, adjusting that dimension based on the height of the chandelier itself. In a room with 9' ceilings, you would go approximately 30" to 34" above the table surface. It also includes some information on picking the right size light for the room...I can post that too if you need that info. Hope this helps....See MoreCherry cabinet look with Cabinet Coat paint over oak?
Comments (8)I was going to paint my cabinets too, but then I came across this thread: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg1021240521611.html Scroll down to the post from Celticmoon. I used General Finshes gel stain in java, but they also have a cherry gel stain: http://www.generalfinishes.com/retail-products/oil-base-wood-stains-sealers/oilbase-gel-stains I followed celticmoon's directions - they are very good. This will only work if you are going from a lighter stain to a darker stain (I am assuming your cabinets are currently stained) Liz...See MoreCan I move this pendant entryway light over dining table?
Comments (16)Hopefully whom ever put in the your hall light left extra wire in the electric box in the ceiling and you will not have to rewire. Look around your Lowes or Home depot they might have some gold chain. Even though gold is coming back in style, sometimes it is still hard to find and so many different colors of gold. Or if your husband installed it maybe he saved the remaining chain. You picked a nice fixture. Look for something that complements it. From your pictures the foyer looks open to the living area. I would just go smaller. The shadows Sam is talking about, is the shadow the light casts on the ceiling and walls when it is on. Yours is fine. I seen one light shadow that looked like a boob on the ceiling. lol Oh yes I am for easy maintenance and comfort....See MoreWhere or how can I include a dining table in this space?
Comments (9)Thank you for taking the time to share all your suggestions with me! Very much appreciated. I love my island (and it does have cabinets and drawers on the other side) so if anything, I may replace it with a smaller one (but I've always really wanted the large island for multiple use). I intended the large island to serve as a dining table also, but it doesn't work so well when we want to eat family style meals together (that's the issue). The family room/kitchen combo is where my family and I usually hang out, eat, watch tv and spend time. We have the formal dining room as a play area for my daughter so she can be near us since we are mainly out in this space, vs putting her alone in her room by herself. I agree, if I move the pantry cabinets, I still don't think there would be enough space for a dining table in that area either. I tried moving my sofas to potentially have the dining table behind it, but it makes the whole area look even more cramped. Perhaps I can move my coffee table and put the dining table near the sliding door area? But then I feel it is misplaced there due to the fireplace/altar. I guess my only option would be to decrease my island size potentially OR create a space for a dining table in the play area. Thanks again everyone!...See Morelazypup
