What is on the opposite wall? Could you change the orientation of the room so the focus is away from those doors? Maybe move the tv to the opposite wall, so the couch and chairs have their backs to those doors. Then, no one would feel as though they are on stage as they enter and leave the bathroom.

Opposite side has the entry, closet, and kitchen entrance.

You seem to have everything right-centered on that wall - i.e. to the corner where the bathroom is located..

What if you were to move the tv slightly to the left and move the furniture also to the left. Put the pictures (?) on the left side of the tv and then perhaps a tall plant on the right side of the wall - sort of on an angle just to the left of the bathroom door.

The fan in the room is left-centered so maybe try to bring the couch, coffee table and tv more in line with it - move the center of the room over further to the left.

You just need to get your attention away from that corner so direct your eye to the left of the tv and not to the right.

If you do that I'm wondering - can you also change the swing direction of the door? Put the door on the otherside? It will help to hide the fact that it is in fact a bathroom.

blfenton, thank you for your quick response. I see what you mean. We plan to move the bedroom door where the armoire is located right now. So after we do that, we can certainly shift the furniture over.

I think if you build up the wall where the TV is, the focus will be less on the doors. For example, if you put in a console with bookcases flanking it (could be an all-in-one unit) it would work really well. I would it the same height as the doors so that it looks built-in/planned. Add lighting (undermount) to the area to highlight it.

Keep the doors closed. I have to because of my toddler! I think the fact that you have TWO doors makes this less of an issue-- and they are symmetrical.

Very lovely house. And, I think just about every house has issues we have to work around. I know mine does!

anele, thank you for the complement. We are a retired couple. Our home is in the country and we are right next to the river, so the scenery is lovely. This is our forever home. The design is a simple rectangle, but when we budgeted in for plumbing, we wanted to keep all the bathroom pipes in one area and this was our only solution.

I like your idea of bookcases. We could always use extra storage. I just don't know how to visualize it with this long wall and bathroom door.

Sounds so pretty! I am sure your guests are relaxed-- enjoying your company and wonderful view, not worrying about the bathroom!

If you are up to moving furniture, maybe you could try moving the armoire next to the TV just to get a sense of what something would look like there. I am guessing it will be a bit too wide, but will give you an idea.

How about putting a decorative screen to back up that maroon chair ... make it just a bit taller than the door and you have the peeper problem solved.

Also, maybe self-closing hinges on the door?

lazygardens, I had thought about a decorative screen at first but I would like to have something more permanent and also symmetrical with the other door. I really like your idea of self-closing hinges!

blfenton, great idea regarding the swinging direction of the doors. I have wallpaper in that little half bath I will have to see if taking the door out will affect the paper. Will have my husband take a look.

anele, funny you mention moving the armoire. It was next to the bathroom door but it felt crowded to me and so I moved it to the corner. But I am really liking your bookcase idea very much.

Not sure if this is possible and might be expensive, but could you slide everything down towards the entry and put a wall all across the back creating a hallway...this would not only give privacy to the bathroom but the bedroom as well. It could be the height of the wall that your closet is on at the entry. It would be just on the other side of the window shown on the right by the bathroom. Without seeing beyond where the armoire is its hard to see if it would work or not or where the opening should be, but it would give you more wall space as well.

My first reaction was to do like blfenton suggested and put the door hinges on the left side of the frame. The door would still open into the room, but the view into the bathroom wouldn't be as visible.
You have a lot of room on that wall, and I think built-in bookcases surrounding the TV with cabinets underneath would look great too.

Just chiming in to agree with blfenton - move the TV a little left, shift the furniture slightly to face the same angle, add a self closing hinge on the bathroom door and switch the way the door opens - problem solved I think!

My first thought was the same as blfenton and chickadee regarding the hinges on the other side. It seems like a simple solution if it doesn't affect your wallpaper.

Thanks everyone! I took some notes and will be implementing many of your suggestions. We are going to start the project in early October since right now we are working on building a chicken coop and shed out of vintage and recycled materials. So many projects, so little time.
