I need to choose exterior house paint need help Please

We are building in a community that has about 15 custom built houses and then it was bought out by a builder and they built houses, we are building the first house since the last houses were built about 18 years ago they said we have to follow the HOA color schemes I have driven through the neighborhood and it seems a lot of house have changed some colors. I found a color scheme that we kinda like but want to change the main house color a bit I would like it more grey. I am terrible with matching colors so if anyone can give me a opinion if the color I have chosen will look ok with the trim color the HOA requires I don’t want to change too much I was also thinking of doing the fascia 10 percent darker. I appreciate any advice our roof is a dark grey flat tiles.

Do you have to have HOA approval before proceeding? If so, "freaking them" may not be a very good strategy. I'm saying that as our subdivision's HOA chair of the architectural committee.

I think it is way too soon to be asking about exterior color. Get the frame up, let’s see the house.. right of the bat? I would go in this direction.

The house is built the green is the screen that we had to put up per HOA just showing a photo to show the roof color I am stopping by the house in a minute and will post a photo of the roof

hermustangs, if you'll read the "new to GW" thread below on this page (or if it's left this page by the time you read this, search for it) you'll find explicit instructions on how to post photos; very easy to do. I think you'll get many more responses if you include photos. I'm not good enough with colors personally to try to answer your questions without seeing the rooms. Good luck!

A color I would recommend is the SW 6335 Fire Brick by the Sherwin Williams Brand. The product SuperPaint Exterior Acrylic Latex Paint would help the paint last and last throughout the elements. I hope this helps.

We are wanting to paint the side on our house but leave the brick as is for economical reasons. I am stumped on what colors to choose that will also compliment the brown brick and roof. I am wanting to do a darker siding color and a light trim color. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate!!

I dislike all their colors and just want to freak them a bit to my liking as it looks like a lot of people have done over the years that they have lived here.

We are just supposed to chose from the pre approved schemes but most people have changed some of their colors or gone darker and they haven’t gotten in trouble but we are the first to build a custom in 16 years since the builder bought and built. Of the 3 schemes I posted do you like any of them? Thanks

You are moving into a home with HOA rules. You can't "tweak" them as you want to. Some colors may look different due to fading, or the homeowners may have gotten special permission at one time. If you paint a color that is not approved, your HOA can likely make you go through the expense of painting over it. At the very least, get your colors approved before you paint.

The HOA just got back to me and agreed that I can submit my own color scheme as we are a custom but can’t guarantee that it will get approval so if anyone has some suggestions I would so appreciate them, I would like a cool grey most of the houses in my community have the main color,fascia, trim color and a front door color

See if there are any loopholes in the HOA requirements i.e. do they state color requirements for *everything* (fascia, shutters, doors, porch ceiling, porch floor etc.) or, are the requirements vague enough that you could get around some things?

Blythe yes they are now going to let me submit colors but aren’t guaranteeing that it will be approved.

emmarene9 we added a courtyard that isn’t shown on the plans we aren’t putting the shutters on and the garage doors are different I will try to post photos. We are in Las Vegas

Claudia, you might want to show them the entire house mocked up in the color scheme that you want to use. The old saying, a picture is worth a thousand words, could help you get the color scheme approved.

This is Agreeable Gray, Extra White and Gauntlet Gray.

I actually think it would be a mistake to go too much gray on the body. You will already have a gray roof.

Canvas Tan is a little grayer than Patience.

I would not use those garage doors shown above. They are a modern design and your house is closer to traditional. I also think the wood grain and side windows when combined with stone would look too busy. I hope one of the professionals will speak to the door as I am just a person like you.

What is the name of your HOA?

Stay away from Unique Gray. It is lilac color.

That was the only photo I could find they won’t be woodgrain, just flat panels with the windows, I liked them because so much of the front of the house is garage I thought it would make it look nicer but I understand what you are saying. I like the colors of the house you suggested I will submit those instead.

You really can't judge based on pictures online. You need to get samples and try them in the blazing sun you have there. The color on the paint chip will seem lighter when used on an exterior.
