Air Compressor with Lifetime warranty

Advance Auto Parts has an AMPRO air compressor for $218 with a lifetime warranty.

It's the only one I have seen with such a warranty. However when searching the internet I can not find anyone who has commented on it.

Anyone with experience with this compressor?

A warranty is only as good as the life of the issuing company. Seems to me if a life time compressor warranty was a financially good idea, there are a lot of compressor companies who would already be doing that.

Ampro is a product brand which Advance Auto supply (which has 2600 stores) somehow created an apparently exclusive relationship with. Like Sears and Craftsman. The Ampro tools has a warranty like Craftsman tools - lifetime. So does this Compressor. If you have problems, I have been told just take it back to a store for a replacement. In keeping with their policy of "free replacement" for life, this one and only air compressor has that warranty. See link

ibpod, Have you contacted Rolair to see if they know of any dealers in your area? If there are no dealers, perhaps they can give you a local contact for warranty and repairs in the event you decide to order one via the internet. If I had no dealer or parts and warranty support in my area, I would think twice about buying a Rolair product. As good as they appear to be, if something should go wrong with it, you sure don't want to send it to the factory at your expense for warranty service. That would be a real problem. My unit weighs 200 lbs. It would have to be attached to a skid and covered for shipment. I hope you find local support if you chose to buy one. Charles Ranheim

Kobalt Air Compressor

I too just purchased the Kobalt 45 gallon compressor from Lowes. Upon getting it home I noticed it was missing a couple of pieces. Rather than loading it back up I called the 800 number on the tank to see if they would just send me the parts. They did but the also asked if I had it direct wired or plugged in and also if it is sitting on rubber pads and bolted down. Apparently they can deny you a warranty claim if you don't do those things. Now theoretically you could change your wiring if you have a problem and they send someone to your house but I just thought you'd like to know. If you ever call for anything they will ask you if you have done those things and they do take note as when I called back the second time they made sure I had it hard wired and bolted down. I did wire it but it is not bolted, just sitting on cut up pieces of tire to absorb vibration which it helps a ton.

I live in Michigan. My home is a colonial with approximately 2400 sq ft. The current heating system, when it worked, was excellent. The house would heat up in a matter of minutes. The temperature also stayed pretty consistent. In the old house we also had the furnace replaced. I hated, hated, hated the new furnace. The furnace would turn on, the house would get warm, then the temperature would go down about 5-7 degrees before turning back on. The air was also super dry and we had never had that problem before. I don't want to make that mistake again. Here's the actual information from the quote: Remove and haul away old equipment. Install Carrier 110,000 BTU 80% efficient furnace with 35ft chimney liner. Install a Carrier 3.5 ton 13 seer central air package with 25ft copper lineset, ac pad, a coil cond (can't figure out what he wrote) pump to pump to laundry. Elect (can't figure out what he wrote) and disconnect. All permits, sheet metal, work, taxes, and cleanup included. Warranties: Furnace - 20 year heat exchanger Parts - 10 year Service & Labor - 2 year Total Cost - $4890 Extras: air cleaner - $200 95% Carrier 100,000 BTU furnace $700 more It seems that it makes more sense to get the 95% or 96% furnace but I really don't know.

Idea for preserving cheap air compressor - paint inside of tank?

The moisture that condenses in an air compressor is very clean water and therefor very aggressive. Attempting to paint the interior of the tank with no control of coverage will not work. You will still have some moisture condense on the tank walls above the paint and will have increased corrosion at that point. Also, any place that the paint doesn't cover, or covers thinly (and you would have no way of knowing) will corrode and then trap water between the paint and the metal causing localized corrosion, which is much worse. As the paint loosens and flakes off (and it will), it will cause you further problems. The tanks are designed to handle the relatively small amount of general corrosion caused by water condensing in the tank. As long as you drain it, your tank will still be capable of holding pressure long after the compressor has ceased functioning.

The compressor shown in that link has a 90 day free replacement warranty. Plus it does not have the capability of properly operating any mechanic type air tools----impact wrench, air ratchet, air sanders, etc.

It would operate air nailers just fine, so a woodworker might find it a good deal.

In the link, the warranty box on the right lists a "lifetime replacement warranty". Is this link pointing you to the $218 unit. Ampro PA200001 ?

But you do bring up a good point. I visited three Advance Auto Supply places to revisit this compressor. The box says the warranty is less. But I spoke with the store manager. He said that the Lifetime replacement warranty applies. He said I will recieve a certified lifetime warranty certificate with this compressor which is signed and dated and offical. Bring it back to a store for a replacement. I feel that is all I need from a chain with 2000+ stores.
In some stores the clerks were not aware of the Lifetime Replacement Warranty on the compressor (AMPRO tools, yes; but were unsure about the compressor), so the certificate is something I would have to have before I purchased.
And yes, all I want is a portable compressor for a pinner, brad nailer, finish nailer, and roofing nailer. This compressor delivers 5.0 SCFM at 90PSI.
Also, what do you think about the pa20005? It is $318; has a shorter warranty, but has a Two-cylinder design for balanced delivery (I have no clue if that is good).

I sometimes nee 100psi for toenailing with my PC framing nailer. I use the 6 gallon PC compressor and it has lasted five years now.

Oiled vs oil free is an issue. If you value your hearing, oiled is the way to go.

Once you have the compressor, you will want to do a lot more with it than you currently think you will. Don't undersize, or soon you will be buying another.
