4 separate circuits in jbox, neutral for every circuit?
Comments (19)Wow, this is a real friendly DIY forum. Don't know if anyone noticed, but this is an old thread. Not real sure why it is continued to be discussed. I posted this question basically to settle a difference of opinion my DH and another guy had over this project. They had been discussing it at work and he was told "he was told he could run four 12 gauge single conductor wires and one 12 gauge neutral single conductor wire". He obviously questioned their judgement, which is why I posted. Thank you to those who offered sound advice and not just ridicule. For those of you concerned with our stupidity and well being, we did hire a professional to do this job. I will definitely think twice before ever asking for advice on this forum again....See MoreUnderfloor radiant heating & separate circuit
Comments (3)Either get the get wire or get the right breaker. Just because you have an open spot on a twin breaker does not mean you have to use it. A twin breaker is like $15, get another. I bet your floor heat was WAY more than that....See MoreHow many circuits do I need in my kitchen remodel for code?
Comments (10)Wow, my kitchen has three duplex 115vac plugs, all on the same 20A, there's another one or two on the walls, near the floor, for vacuum/whatever. Not sure about the dishwasher, may have its own circuit, and the electric range is 220vac, thus on itw own circuit. The above recommendation sounds like a lot to me. Not sure why there is any code requirements beyond having wire size that matches the circuit breaker, and perhaps GFI, not sure I agree with that being required either, but I wasn't asked. If code requires all the circuits mentioned above all I can conclude is the electrical contracting industry must have had something to do with writing the standards (a.k.a code), suppose they dominate NFPA work on this type subject...then the towns/cities just go along as they don't have any expertise to make independent judgement...love the good old days of less government and less regulation. Yes, our counter-top microwave and toaster are on the same circuit and I do note a change in sound from the microwave if I activate the toaster when the microwave is running, but no problem, no interruption of power or noticeable change in the effectiveness of the two appliances....See MoreHow many circuits are needed for a bathroom?
Comments (9)I'm going to start by getting the terminology straight. Outlet refers to any device that consumes electricity. The thing you plug cords into is called a receptacle. First, let's address the GFCI requirement. All 120V 15/20A receptacles in a bathroom must be protected by GFCI. Some light fixtures (particularly when used in the damp areas) require GFCI by their manufacturer (you must read the instructions). The Jacuzzi probably also requires a GFCI by its installation instructions. First step, obviously is READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. The Jacuzzi probably has its own requirement for circuits. Again read the instruction. Now the receptacles in your bathroom are required to be on a 20A circuit. The code gives two possibilities for this circuit: either it serves outlets (lighting/fan/receptacles) in this one bathroom, or it serves only receptacles in bathrooms. For example, you can run a 20A circuit that only serves this bathroom and put the receptacles and the lights on it. Another option would be to feed multiple bathrooms with one 20A circuit serving only receptacles. The lighting can be put on any other (otherwise unrestricted) circuit....See More- 16 years ago
