Noisy Marvin Integrity DH Wood Ultrex

Our double hung windows make a popping/creaking noise when buffeted by wind. I think I've isolated the noise to the point below. I'm wondering if the painted interior side of the upper sash is sticking to the composite thingy (stop or parting bead?), which creates a pop or creak when hit with wind. I have a call into Marvin. In the meantime I was thinking I might rub the top rail of the upper sash with wax? Anyone else have this problem?

I've installed many Integrity jobs and never heard of that issue. Be sure to post back with the findings.

A-Series has a fibrex frame and a fiberglass clad sash. This is from Andersen's brochure on the A-Series for professionals. There is no reason why fibrex should fail any sooner than fiberglass. It is completely immune to water, just as is fiberglass. The advantage of A-series is that it is available in a number of deep colors, Marvin Integrity has a much more restricted palette of exterior colors. We are probably going to go with the A-series because of color choice. Otherwise, I would definitely go with the Marvin Integrity. That said, I see no reason to fear fibrex as a material, it has been in use for quite some time. Here is a link that might be useful: Link to downloadable brochures

The pricing spread should not anywhere approach that delta. The Infinity is normally a bit more expensive and is a better finish looking product if you are considering the Ultrex/Ultrex combination. That being said, it is not worth 2X by any stretch. Is this for a new construction application or replacement? Have you looked at other windows and what is your rationale for the fiberglass? Just asking from a research standpoint. Take a look at the Integrity wood/Ultrex combination as that is a good looking window. By the way, there are no real stock sizes. The Integrity used to be run on a stock size program if I am not mistaken but they have moved away from that.

My daughter has purchased a new home with 50 year old double hung windows that need to be replaced. It is a colonial home in Massachusetts several miles from the coast. She is trying to decide between the Anderson 400 series and the Marvin Integrity. She wants to stay with the same traditional 6 over 6 white double hung windows. Any thoughts on which is better - the Marvin Integrity, or the Anderson 400 Series?

"Its all about distance. If you are doing it for the look from the street, don't bother. If you are doing it for your own view (i.e. interior) go for it." Appreciate all your comments! So many choices . I like the interior look of the Ultimate, but then I think of the problems we had with our previous wood windows, and think the all fiberglass exterior would virtually eliminate any chance of wood rot versus a wood clad product.

Okay.

Just trying to isolate out the temperature noises that we hear on some wood and fiberglass windows.

Have you tried some dry film lubricant between the pieces.

I'll try the dry film lubricant on a few windows. My suspicion is that the interior paint on the sashes had not fully cured before the windows were "closed up" causing a paint blocking(sticking) situation.

Any best practices for contacting Marvin? I submitted an online request for contact 6 months ago and never heard back. Called the 800 number today and left a message with someone named Lauren?

I don't have any best points of contacts but the Marvin folks do peruse the boards.

I am sure Lauren will get back to you as they run a tight ship.

Update for the thread. Tried a Teflon based dry film lubricant on a few windows. The creaking was diminished for a week or so, but is returning to unacceptable levels.

The responses from Marvin and the local distributor (Moehl Millwork) have been useless. Marvin sent me a flurry of emails, but with no meaningful content or outcome. 10 business days later, the distributor has yet to return my calls to schedule a service visit. I was told after my initial call that service (once scheduled) is 2-3 weeks out. Uffda.

Buyer's remorse here I come.

Try a bar of soap and see if that doesn't do it as well.

Hopefully the folks from Marvin will reach out to you again.
