Marvin Integrity Quote vs Andersen 100's
Comments (11)You're correct; I misspoke. I should have said "composite" window. The Andersens are made from a composite product called Fibrex, which is basically wood mixed with a resin-type material. From what I've read, it isn't as strong as the Ultrex fiberglass that Marvin uses, but I'm not sure if the Ultrex is $8500 more impressive. We don't want to go with the 400s because we don't want the maintenance with the wood portions of the windows. I looked over the two quotes closely this morning. The substantial difference is in the fixed glass (solid single pane) picture windows. The Integrity windows are more than double the price of the 100s for these fixed windows. For casements and other opening windows, the prices were not substantially different. I guess I'm not sure why these fixed windows are more than double the price? Thoughts??...See MoreMarvin Integrity -vs- Andersen 200 Series - Opinions? Experience?
Comments (3)The vinyl on the Andersen is merely a cladding. No cladding, be it aluminum or vinyl, is meant to be structural in any way. So the strength issue is irrelevant. Either technology, if installed properly, will last a lot longer than most of us. I'm curious how people can make long term predictions on the Ultrex since it's still a pretty new technology. The first release products of fiberglass had a strength issue, with sills cracking along the strands of the fiberglass. That issue appears to have been resolved, but only time will tell. Andersen has been successfully using vinyl cladding for about 40 years. The real world success of the products is a testiment to their quality and long lasting ability. I agree that all manufacturers will be looking into more composite materials for products. How they will shape the industry remains to be seen....See MoreAndersen E Series vs. Integrity by Marvin
Comments (15)We ended up going with the Integrity windows. I am happy with the look and quality of the windows (with the exception of the locking lever on casements, which has a cheap plastic cover rather than being solid metal). Two cautionary points: they delivered very late (like 50-75% longer than quoted) and I had to make some compromises to fit within Integrity's limited size options (had to use two awnings over a set of French doors because they couldn't make a single one wide enough). I suppose the late delivery could have also happened with the E-series, but my understanding is that the E-series has extensive size options. As for the durability I'll need to wait and see, but on balance I am happy with my choice....See MoreIntegrity Wood-Ultrex vs Anderson 400 or E-series??
Comments (6)I would be surprised to see the 400 Series TW have more air infiltration than almost any other tilting window. It has a jambliner that actively pushes against the sash, vs relying on passive weatherstrip for the sash to slide along. In fact, that is a selling point of the TW for me. Being on the service side of it for the past 15+ years, I really appreciate a well-installed TW. The downside for me is less wood showing on the interior vs the vinyl jambliner....See Moremillworkman
