A Stepmother's Love

On one of the forums there has been discussions about the kind of love a stepmother has (or doesn't have) for her stepchildren.

I didn't come into my former stepdaughter's life until she was a teenager, so I never had a part in raising her. Her Dad and I are recently divorced, but I'm very happy to say my former stepdaughter and I are still very good friends.

She and I spent the day together today and we had such a wonderful time. When we made our plans for the day I invited her Mom to join us and her Mom told me that she thought it would be great for the two of us to spend some time alone together. When I brought her home, her Mom came out and gave me a big hug!

While she is no longer "technically" my stepdaughter, I love her just the same as I did when I was married to her Dad. I have had the pleasure of watching her grow into a beautiful young woman and I'm so proud of her and am happy that she still wants me to be a part of her life.

I'm also happy that her Mom understands this and is not threatened by it at all, but rather is happy that someone else thinks her daughter is pretty special.

I can also see that she takes a lot after her mother, who I really have grown to like a lot since my divorce. I always liked her before, I just didn't know her very well. But since my divorce, she and I have had several heart-to-heart conversations that have been very healing for both of us and helped us to both put our marriages to the same man into perspective.
