Wiring a FV-05VF2 in a 120 V AC .

Um someone gave this to me being they mistakinly purchased it. Its supposed to be set up in a bathroom to ventilate air through out it.Now to make this short and sweet. In the building I am currently abiding in, I cannot install this as a ventilation that goes in wall. My sole desire is to install

this Panasonic FV-05VF2 anyway. I just got done with Using a DC power supply to power some Car speakers I also got for

free but had no car and so had no way to use them.

So I know it is possible to be able to power this in my home. I would set it up, with help of my friends through m window. But its the wiring to allow it to get power through

a 115/120 V outlet thats the ISSUE. Its wierd. It has a lead and green wires. What can i do to recieve power, do i need some type

of power supply?

What exactly are you trying to do with this fan?

Power wiring is a far cry from stereo speakers. You might want to go read a book (Wiring Simplified you can find at Home Depot) before poking around at it too much.

The thing wants normal 120V household current.

I don't even understand what you're trying to do here. What do car speakers and DC power even have to do with anything at all regarding this?
From what I can gather, you have a 120v bathroom fan that you are trying to wire?
Can you explain a little more clear please.

Thank you very much for your post davidtay. 1. A LED lamp/ strip is more than just the emitters soldered onto some wires (or copper tubing) that are in turn connected to some power supply. My bundled figure for transformers, driver circuits, and wiring may have been a little low, but I think it's close. I didn't break it out b/c I was already a little long-winded. :) I did leave out the cost of copper, though; I'm not sure that's the way I want to go anyway. 2. The LEDs will need to be powered at the voltage (and current) ranges specified by the manufacturer, which may not be 48V. The current might have to be lower than 1A for the sake of longevity. Right, the particular one I mention can be driven at 2A, but it'll last a lot longer at 300mA. I was thinking about driving it at about 700mA. Of course, I would have to design/purchase a driver that will, among other things, step down voltage if necessary and supply the right current to drive at the proper amperage. And, of course, the things burn brighter at 2A than at 300mA, but last longer at 300mA, meaning that you have to buy more to achieve the desired lumens. Definitely a balancing act. 4. The BOM cost goes down when millions of devices are built. However, the manufacturers, especially for something as hot as LEDs, and requiring as much design expertise as they do, set their markups liberally, too. Still, the case can be made (elsewhere) for the value of a purpose-built custom system, when it comes to LEDs, and that case has been made elsewhere, so I won't belabor the point. 5. The wiring and power supply setup for an extensive low voltage system will probably be a significant undertaking. There will be significant design, ... and regulatory hurdles (i.e. - building code) to clear. I believe in most jurisdictions electric code compliance starts at 50V. Anything you do under 50V DC you're welcome to without constraint. Of course code has to apply to the transformers, but generally not after that. At least, those are some of the motivations I've been riding on when trying to decide whether or not to do this.

There is the aspect of derating with multiple wires. When I was installing/roughing in alarms, I was instructed in no uncertain terms we were to make our own holes and not double up with anything, and at least in Canada, power/ac (inc doorbells etc) and data/lv couldn't be mixed, although comms could mix with security wiring for example. This pertains to Canadian rules and telephone specifically, but it says (quoting Telus literature) "The Canadian electrical code Part 1, rule#60-300 requires a minimum of 50mm (2") separation from power cables." It also goes on (not quoted as part of the code afaik) the wires should not run parallel to power cables within the same stud space, nor be pulled through holes occupied by electrical cables. Oddly, my BC electrical codes (simplified) doesn't refer to this rule at all.

Beacon : Use a rotating beacon like what construction vehicles use and put a resistor or rheostat in line with the power on the motor so you can slow it down for realism. I would use a low voltage photo cell and possibly replace the bulb with LED's from a place like superbrightleds.com. They should have a compatible led light that will go in the plug or have the things needed to make your own setup. Power: I think a lead acid lawn mower battery (U1L the old bigger battery not a motorcycle style) series and trickle charger would be adequate for the beacon and the lift. IF you go with the LED setup you could charge it via solar panel. Lift : I think a window motor could be adapted and work well or the early to mid 90's rangers and F series trucks had electronic shift on the transfer case for 4x4. It was a starter style motor with gear reduction and stop switches for different ranges and best of all they are fairly well sealed. If you check some of the motorcycle shops you might be able to get a starter from there that has a planetary gear reduction (high torque) that just needs taking apart and given some TLC for little or no money. This would be a pretty compact and rather quiet option. I see both projects as being really cool ideas but the lift might be better to just buy a lift designed for such use and adapting it further for your setup. I would check ebay. OH wait umm what voltage did the old monster satellite dish rotators run off of? That would be by far the easiest to adapt. Either lift or rotate could be used. I like the solar charge with photo cell and LED light idea the best with wire run over to the adapted satellite dish rotator spa cover lift the best!

It sounds to me that the person asking the questions does not understand enough about wiring to do this safely and should get someone that knows what they are doing to help. Even if one does not get a shock or worst setting it up, there is always the fire hazard. Based on what I read so far, if he switches the elements to 3500's and they only run one at a time, then the 12/2 wire would be just fine and this is the way I have seen many a water heater installed. The thing I did not care for is the use of two single 20 amp breakers for a 240v load. Code requires the breakers to be tied together so that both trip if one trips. Ok this is exactly what Im trying to do.
I dont care how wierd this sounds.
I wanna use it as an exhaust fan/ ventilator.
Which takes the air from my room and
drives it outside via my window. If it
could just plug directly into my socket using
a 3 prong cord then The porblem would be solved.

I'm looking at the installation instructions, and if you don't understand how it should be wired, then IMO, you shouldn't be fooling around with AC power.

So what your implying is that its so easy, that if
I dont know how wire that I should leave AC wire alone
altogether?

Look this is the point. I Would rather not pay an
electrician to come into my home just to
do something that might not be 100% too difficult
for me to do.

I also looked at the manufacturer's instructions and I think I would give them an award for a good manual, compared to most things I see these days. It does not go into detail on the electrical connections, however. It assumes you know basic residential wiring practices.

Wiring AC power requires knowledge of some different things than wiring car stereos, starting with the color codes and safety precautions.

You can do it yourself, but only after you study a book or two on residential wiring. Buy one at the hardware store or check one out of the library. Don't try it until you really understand what is going on.

Now that I've covered my own ass....

Go to Home Depot or whatever local shop of the like. Buy a cord that has a three prong plug on the end of it and nothing else on the other end. If you can't find anything ask someone for a cord to connect to a garbage disposal. If you look close at the cord you will see it has three wires. Look even closer and one of them will be ribbed, that is your neutral, remember it, the middle one SHOULD be your ground (hopefully it will be marked green, if not sorry but you're on your own), and the other is your hot.
On your fan (I didn't look up the manual for the fan so I don't know exactly how it looks but...) you should have three wires, a white, a black, and a green. Use an appropriate connector (romex connector) and run your cord into the fans junction box.
Wire nut the green wire of the fan, to the middle wire of your cord, wire nut the white wire of your fan to the ribbed wire of your cord, wire nut the black to the other wire.
Plug it in.

A garbage disposal cord would have the wires colored. That would be your best scenario

Dont worry a Licensed electrician would not touch this at all
