HELP! paint missing!

ok guys, I need your expertise!

We have been remodeling and have had this bar in storage for 2 years with the plastic still on it. We are finally in the homestretch of finishing the den and got some pieces moved into the room. We accidently left a small bottle of leather stain remover on top of the new/old bartop and it ate through the finish!

The piece is a Stein World "old english bar" and Stein World was of no help in telling me how to fix our error. I had thought the piece was wood, but upon sanding the spot I've discovered it is MDF underneath it, and a painted surface. It's still beautiful except for the big white splotch about the size of a silver dollar on top. Here is a pic of the problem. I am thinking I am going to have to try to match this up with acrylic paint. Any ideas on what I should or could do? Stain won't work, I tried minwax polyshades but it's just not gonna cut it.

Please put on your thinking caps and tell me what you would do (short of shelling out another grand for a new bar). I know it won't look perfect, but I'm desperate! HELP!

The white areas have to go---that is probably primer, but what I am suggesting does not need primer. And stain does not color primer anyway.

Garnet shellac after foru or five coats looks very close to the color in your picture. The black dots could be added using a small paint brush and model paint----just let the paint dry completely for a day or so before adding more shellac.

The only downside to using shellac is that alcohol is the base/thinner, so spilling any alcohol product on that patch will disturb the finish.

HandyMac, I do have a piece of glass that we had cut to fit over the bartop. When it arrived and we went to set it into place is when I moved the leather repair bottle and discovered the stain. We got the glass just so things like this would not happen. Sigh, too little too late. If I can fix this patch, at least I know it won't happen in the future.

Wow, first time in a long time, that scrolling through here, I see a room, I could actually live in, and feel comfortable in. Most are so absolutely dull and perfect, that having a cup of coffee in one of them, would make me very uncomfortable. I love your room. I do like the idea of the darker teal curtain panels, and I would look for a much lighter shade of that teal for the walls.

Someone said: I believe the Houzz experts (and I am NOT one!) suggest the TV be 2/3 the width of the TV cabinet. No no no no no. The TV cabinet needs to be at least 25% wider than the TV. Wider is always better. There is no minimum size for the TV. Do not hang that guitar between the windows. Do not hang anything between the windows. Your curtains are perfect. Hang the guitar on the wall just left of the TV, get some art for over the sofa, and add just a touch more red to echo the arc lamp (which is tres cool, BTW). You've done a great job so far. I know too many grays/beigey gray. I just bought the "stone" color swivel chair even though I knew I should get some color in there and I almost changed the fabric on the ottoman even though it would be $$ due to special order. Today I just happened to be looking at PPG Soft herbal sage. Thanks!

It's a painted faux finish. Here's a list of possible solutions
paint it.
Redoo the entire top with a new faux finish.
attempt to match the finish.
Glue a piece of wood grain formica.
Glue a real wood veneer and finsish it.
peel and stick plastic wood grain(mactac).
Put a lamp over it.

Handy and Joed, thanks for your input and help. I had also cross posted this in the furniture forum, and someone there mentioned contacting a faux painter. I left a message with a place called the "Furniture Medic", who happens to be in our town fortunately. UNfortunately, he is on vacation til the 20th and their offices are closed. I am gonna contact him first, and if he is under $100 we are gonna have him touch it up, since that is what they do. I'm not so confident I could "patch" it well enough, and I just finished one woodworking project and don't relish tackling another. If he doesn't work out, I may go for it though.
