Question: which size blinds to order?...windows different sizes

I need to order bamboo roman shades for my living room and dining room windows. The problem is the windows are different sizes and I don't know what to order. There are two sets of windows in the dining room and one set in the living room and they are all visible from the front door.

(Sorry for how dark it is. With the windows, it's impossible to get a decent pic.)

Each individual window is about 27" wide. I can do a shade for each window for a total of 8 shades. Or I can do one 60" shade on the double window and two on the quadruple window, but then what do I do on the triple window? Use three individual shades or two 48" shades? If I do two, then the shades would meet in the middle of the center window. Would that look odd?

I plan on keeping the current linen curtains open and use the shades for light control. This wall faces West and the afternoon sun is brutal, especially in the dining room. Privacy isn't an issue as we have a corn field behind our house. The shades in the dining room would get daily use and I may only close the shades in the living room every once in awhile.

Can you get multiple shades on a single headrail?

I was going to go bamboo and had the same issue. My windows were just over 70" wide and I was advised not to go with a single wide blind. We'd need ours lined (I see neighbors, so you might too?) and apparently they get ungodly heavy at that width.

I didn't want completely separate shades, though, because they're so hard to line up and end up looking piecemeal (IMO). I have a pic of individual pane shades I can post of it would help (I'll have to pull it off my phone rq).

I ended up going with shutter blinds (extra wide slat horixontal blinds), multiple blinds on a single headrail. It looks cohesive, but each blind is very manageable, and I like that I can raise/lower them independently.

I would not have them meet in the middle of a pane.

If you did a single for each window I would assume inside mount, while if you double up on the one set of windows I would assume outside mount. Do you have a preference?

If I read the photos correctly, you have a common head height for all windows and interior openings--which is common, and usually a good idea for visual consistency. This is especially true if your house is a historical variant or anything other than a modern, International School design. Your verbal description is confusing and I'm not sure what the issue is. Is it that you think the head of the windows should be higher? If so, how high do you envision them? And is it worth the time and cost to reframe all the window, door and interior openings to be consistent throughout? IMO, I think it will look fine with your 10' ceilings. A window with an 8' head will let in a great deal of light. It's as tall as the ceilings in a normal house. I'm not one that uses window coverings, but if you are you will need that area between the head of the windows and ceiling for mounting window coverings of some sort. FWIW, you are at the stage of construction where many owner's eyes begin to play tricks on them, causing expensive change orders, often for little gain. This is the time for discipline rather than changes here and there (unless there is something truly surprising and upsetting). This looks perfectly fine to my eye. Good luck on your project.

A "different" question about oven size

"Do you think it could be a deal-breaker if I suddenly have to sell the house (which is not likely but could happen)? " It COULD be...............but so could the cherry or white cabinets you chose. Or, the berber carpet, or the tile in the bathroom, or the wall paper. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to game the market. Not even your realtor who does it everyday for years and years can say with any certainty what will sell your house. Few people will even notice whether you have a 27" oven or a 30" one. I wouldn't even say 30" is standard. It's definitely heading that direction , but plenty of 27" ovens are in kitchens and are sold everyday. Most will notice if you have a 24" one, but even then it might not be a deal breaker. Besides, if it came down to just that, you'd simply credit the buyer $2500 at closing to buy whatever size and brand oven they wanted and take the old one with you. Furthermore, you aren't going to recoup the dollars you put into the renovation at closing anyway - so you should get what YOU want and will use instead of what you think a buyer will want. P.S. - it won't be the same things you do. Go for the drawer. jadeite - how many more cookies do you think you could get in a 30" oven than the 27" one ? I'm guessing the same as you'd probably end up using the same sheets you have now.

Ordering exact size of windows

Many manufacturers will build windows to exact size. Be aware that you may have to make adjustments in the interior trim. The replacement window may not be the same thickness. I went from old double pane aluminum to double pane vinyl and I had to cut the sheetrock out around every opening. Not particularly hard to do but time consuming. I also had to use my table saw to rip down the window sills. I like the windows, but I had 6" exterior walls; the vinyl windows didn't leave my much of a window sill

@shead sooo funny, indeed we must be. I also have a problem with salt & pepper shakers. I love them. lol I have at least 10 sets out & around. Not counting the seasonal ones. I still have the old Tupperware salt & pepper shaker set in my camper. Handed down from my mom :) See how I tied all that together??!! lol

Oh good catch, I missed that. No meeting in the middle of a window pane. If you do multiples on a single headrail, they can space them evenly and position "gaps" in the area of the trim rather than the window.

Also, the windows are actually all part of one big window so I can't see how I could inside mount them. Here's a close-up pic of the top right of one of the windows. See what I mean?

Avesmor, what do you mean by multiple shades on a single headrail? And, no, we can't see neighbors from these windows. Just our backyard and acres and acres of corn. The neighbors are out front.
