kitchen sink not centered with window, issues with 24' sink base?
Comments (9)hi, i'm kind of wondering whether you've thought about how big a sink you need or want, first. you mentioned that it's a good size kitchen, so maybe you'd want at least a "standard" size of 33". there are a lot more choices, too. single bowl vs. double is a whole other debate! i'm getting a 24" sink, but i have a small kitchen. also two other thoughts: many people seem to center their sinks with regard to where the panes are in the window so they aren't looking right into one. sometimes they even place the sink faucet centered on the window, but off-center from the sink to make it look symmetrical. there are a lot of threads on this subject too. i'll look for the one i'm thinking of with good photos. or you can google "gardenweb kitchen window sink centered", or something like that. the other is the 33" lazy susan. i was considering one of these, but someone mentioned the door is pretty small. if i understand your layout correctly, your corner cabinet is open on the back to a walkway. garenweb member buehl turned a regular cabinet backward to be accessed from the walkway side so you have full access to the cabinet. that's pretty hard for me to explain, so i will link the thread. anyway, it's seems more useful than a corner susan if you can do it. then you will also have 9" extra to distribute to a sink base or the the far drawers. good luck! Comments (6)I've seen hundreds of kitchen windows. IMO having the casing butt up to the cabinets is absolutely fine, and I prefer it. However, it depends on the space. If you have a wall space between the cabinet and the window, it should be at least something you can paint, not a small 3/4" space or less. This is probably not easy to get unless you go with a smaller window than you want. I think the bigger window out-weighs the trim consideration. If I may make another suggestion... I've grown quite fond of an awning window over the kitchen sink. It eliminates the horizontal or vertical meeting rail in the middle of the opening, so it makes the window feel even bigger with an open view to the yard. It offers plenty of ventilation just like any other window. I've done quite a few of these over the last several years and people love it....See MoreKitchen Window Sizing Help/ Size Guidelines
Comments (3)We are doing a similar design. For us it's all about natural light. Our windows face East and we want as much morning sun as possible. The windows will look onto a deck/courtyard which is across from the master bedroom (u-shaped house). So it's not out looking at the back yard greenery but we will make the courtyard area colorful with potted plants and such. The windows are 36"x3= 108" This other picture is my inspiration picture. Those windows face East as well and look out to the side yard - essentially a fence. But it's about the natural light that comes in. Those windows are 32"x4 = 128"....See MoreHelp! Size of Window over kitchen sink
Comments (6)We have a 60" window over our sink and I love it. It's a triple casement window so the outer two windows open and the middle is fixed. It's really not that big; I often wish it were bigger. On either side of the window are 30" cabinets, which is a good size for dishes and glasses. I'm not sure what you plan on storing in the cabinets on the sides of your window but now that ours is done, I'm happy that we traded slightly smaller cabinets for a larger window. I think the total counter run is about 11' 6'', so there's a 30" cabinet, the 60" window (plus molding), and another 30" cabinet. There's also a few inches of space between the window molding and the cabinets. Hope this helps....See Moreseabornman
