How on earth did you cut the numbers so perfect!!! And the little girl is precious!!! Really really nice!!!!!

I would go for house 1, being able to walk to places is such a plus for me. Where we are now I can walk to the library in about 30 min (40 if the dog gets to sniff and pee on everything). It's another 10 min to get coffee and a donut (since I walked all that way) and too often our dog just isn't up for it. I wish we were a little closer to everything, about 1 mile closer and I'd walk for coffee every Saturday and Sunday. When I was in my 20's I wanted to live on acreage away from everything. Now that I'm in my 40's I like being near people and things. I love sitting on the porch for an hour and seeing 4 or more people/couples walking their dogs, kids, or just themselves. I don't know why, either :) Also, I would get more use out of a bigger garage than a guest house :). I have more toys and tools than out of town guests, and a separate structure is another thing to maintain. Bear in mind that I'm also anti-vacation-home (for us, not for everyone else). And a view is something you enjoy all the time. We aren't even on a hill and we have a view of woods and distant farmland off our back deck. There is something restful and enriching about a view you like (or love). So I would buy house number 1.

CalamityjÃ¢ÂÂs reply follows on March 13, 2014 This will explain how she hung her mosaic cross. To answer your question about the house numbersÃ¢ÂÂ¦ I used 1Ã¢ÂÂ nylon spacers that were 3/8Ã¢ÂÂ in diameter (I think! I just made sure that the screw that came with the number fit through the opening in the nylon spacer). Each metal number had 2 screw holes, so I marked where the screw holes would be on the Wediboard. The Wediboard is ÃÂ½Ã¢ÂÂ thick. The 1Ã¢ÂÂ spacers are then recessed into & through the Wediboard ÃÂ½Ã¢ÂÂ. This leaves the remaining ÃÂ½Ã¢ÂÂ of the spacer sticking out from the WediboardÃ¢ÂÂs front surface, and ÃÂ½ inch into the Wediboard, pushed through and stopped - flush with the backside surface. I set these in place with E6000. This is before I started the mosaic work. The numbers were then set into place over the spacers after the mosaic work & the grouting were completed, being very careful not to dislodge the spacers from the Wediboard. The screws for each number go through the number itself, through the 1Ã¢ÂÂ spacer, and needs to stick out about ÃÂ½Ã¢ÂÂ on the backside of the Wediboard (You may have to buy longer screws; I did). I used all stainless steel screws, washers & nuts. I also added more E6000 glue as I tightened the screws onto the nuts. By tightened, I donÃ¢ÂÂt mean TIGHT, because the Wediboard has lots of Ã¢ÂÂgiveÃ¢ÂÂ to it. Just secure the numbers in place without muscle! I didnÃ¢ÂÂt want the screws to stick out on the back & scratch the aluminum siding, so I bought some plastic nut covers to place over the ends, using more E6000. Those numbers are going no where!!! Have I confused you? One regretÃ¢ÂÂ¦ everything about the house sign is Art Deco EXCEPT the numbers. I could have ordered Art Deco numbers, but they would have cost 4Xs more that the standard black metal numbers that you find at hardware stores. DH got some great brownie points by installing my post panels today. It's turning out to be a much bigger job than I thought after the installation. Now I am touching up all of the places we had wedi washers and regular washers, used at least 5 per panel. and no idea WHY i didn't consider the sides of the panels, but i didn't so those all need to be tiled and need to just blend them all together so they look seemless. Spend this afternoon until it got dark starting the work. i've been using thinset and it is so messy for this work, but I couldn't think of anything else that will hold the tess when they are vertical. here you go. also did a grout test, you can see it on my flickr site Here is a link that might be useful: Chez Fleur De Mer installed

Love your place! I'd beef up the entryway with some stairs, railings, etc. to draw attention, then I'd look for a hanging sign... with meaning. e.g., if you collect seashells, I'd have a seashell-shaped sign made, of if you love lighthouses, ... get the idea? :) My niece is a custom woodworker and she could make you a great sign! Oh, I like the girl too, especially the swirly thing, makes it look kind of fantasy like.

d3bbi, I used MDF for the girl picture and backer board for the house number sign.

Gypsy and ladyronnie, I just traced those numbers and cut them out with a pencil glass cutter. The grinder helps smooth it all out nicely.

Lisa, I just had to come back to this and was studying the girl at the beach....this just came alive to me after you grouted it. And, you used 3 different colors of grout, didn't you? I think that was a great decision! AND....is that a barrette in her hair, and a flower on her sleeve? I love the way you did her hair. And I really like the way you did her dress - with the bodice pieces going in one direction, and the bottom part going in the other direction. Could we have a close up of that area? I think I like it more every time I look at it. It really is awesome.

Oh, LISA - LYNDALU made me re-check this for the details she pointed out. WONDERFUL. BTW - tell me about the house numbers - the background - is this not grouted? Can't quite make out the background pieces.

Slow, Yep, it's grouted in tan. Those are an assortment of tan glass pieces around the numbers and the grout around them is pretty close in color...guess that's why it's hard to see.
