Will I tire of a beach seashore theme? Show me your beach house!
Comments (12)Thanks to all! Really great suggestions! agree with many of the posters and my sofas are always solids. In my primary residence, I have a tone on tone damask and a woven solid and a solid green (in different rooms, of course). I always accent with chairs and pillows and accessories, BUT, because my primary residence is 18th century, mahogany, with a few whimsical touches, I really wanted the second home to be totally different than the primary residence. Maybe my title was misleading. The only fabric reflecting a coastal theme would be a pair of club chairs. The solid sofa is great, but I thought doing a pair of two themed chairs, translation: FUN, chairs, and the chairs would be the only themed pieces of furniture, would make me smile when I enter the home and put me in a vacation mode frame of mind!! Having said that, I am now rethinking the fabric only because I like, not love that fabric. I kept gravitating to it because it works beautifully with the green sofa. The greens in the crab fabric are perfect with the green sofa....so, now I am off hunting for fabric again. I really like greens and blues together. My PR colors are red, goldish- yellow and green. I have no blue in this home, so now leaning toward a blue and green color scheme and, perhaps, a geometric or a paisley. I do not want over the top beachy, but I do want to feel I am away from my home with subtle coastal touches. If this were my primary residence, I would not even be questioning the theme, but because this is a getaway home, I do want it to reflect the area and the laid-back mode. Planning to use paint colors and fabrics I would not think of using in my PR. I will let you know what I find and i am keeping all of your great thoughts and suggestions in mind!! I think the crab walk fabric is walking!!!...See Moreatrium windows in beach house - kill the deal?
Comments (1)Personally i would not let it be a deal breaker, the worst part of these windows is generally the efficiency of the glass and air infiltration. If the builder was and is a good quality builder and installed the windows properly I doubt you will have an issue with leaking especially under a large overhang and or porch. The units with the seal failures if you need to purchase the glass have a local glass company order the glass and it will probably be a non issue as well.If you will live nearby you may wish to have plywood panels cut and fit to act as storm shutters for the off season either put up as needed or just out them up in the fall and take them down in the spring when you open the house....See MoreBeach house bathroom is done
Comments (11)That looks lovely! I checked out your blog post as well. The windows make a huge difference! I'm interested in your future post about building the doors; maybe I can modify something for the Ikea closets I'm thinking of buying (I hate their doors!)....See MoreBeach House Curb Appeal
Comments (22)Thanks everyone for your input! I think I will do the following this spring: -Install a paving stone border -Plant something bigger in the planter ? Armeria I will ask local landscape for recommendations -Update mailbox/House number with a pop of color: there were a lot of comments about the mailbox but since this is a beach house, we barely get any mail! Maybe 1x month -FIND driftwood to make the pile bigger…did you know driftwood sells for $250 for a two foot piece! I hope to share and updated photo. Also, stayed tuned for photos of the interior! In the future: Painting the trim…my contractor/handyman/painter aka DAD just repainted the white…so we won't be touching that for a few years. Plant hydrangea bushes or, various plants on the whole front year, or replace the small planter with two larger Dig Doug: I love your renderings, especially the trellis! Additional comments: House is in Lavallette (good eye Dig Doug!) Won't widen the boardwalk…it would expand into the driveway Won't paint or stain the shingles…too much upkeep. Yes, the front room is a porch. The "real" front door is inside there. Creating a patio/porch: I like the idea and the look but the front room is a porch and we have outdoor seating out back. Town rule we cannot pave (or paving stone) the whole yard=drainage issues during storms Not sure about termites…will look into this. Thank you for the warning!...See MoreYayagal
