I like a valance, but I'm not sure I like that valance. It looks sheer, and sheers over blinds - I never really understood. All it does is colorize a section of your blinds, which you can still see.

If you want to use that valance, I would alter it to a rod pocket, or at least shorten the tabs (though I think think stubby tabs might look odd). The spaces between the tabs should not show the trim or window, just wall.

I do like the valance -- especially the color -- but perhaps change to a rod-pocket style as wisely suggested above.

If you do keep that valance or perhaps find another ornage one -- add a short row of your orange glasses (like the one in the second photo) to sit along the windowsill to hold items like the ones on the far-left-hand-side of the sill ......

Ditto what avesmor said...I would look at Penneys for a nice colorful patterned valance that goes out over your window rather than between it....I think Waverly makes some nice inexpensive ones.

Oh, I would definitely either shorten the tabs on the valance or make it a pocket rod one. It is sheer - I just wanted to get an idea of how a valance would look up there - I don't necessarily have to use that particular valance.

A valance would give some interest. I remembe your previous threads about trying to alter the backsplash. Since you are keeping your kitchen as is for now, a quick fix would be a nice valance.
I think a print,would be nice in a curvy shape. A vaalnce that just goes across doesn't really add much.

I don't think I would opt for either of those. Instead, I would just drop the decorative branch so it just barely draped over the header on the blinds.

I like adriennemb's idea...the decorative branch would be your valance. If you want to still use your vase, put it on the left side of your sink, on the counter...it will cover the corner of your window (where you have a picture frame and other stuff). Want to add, I don't think I would like a figured valance....will take away from the pretty decorative branch.

Love the vase and silver dollar branch! I have a vintage green vase and now I want to put the same red branch in it that you have. Is it a silver dollar? Did you buy it online?

But I prefer the vase over the valance, unless you can do both.

Oakleyok - the leaves are soft so it's not a silver dollar branch. I bought it at Michael's (at the store not online) a while ago and when I was there a few weeks ago I saw that the still carry them.

I cannot do both b/c the vase is too tall. I am leaning toward just keeping the vase.

Chocolate, as "simple" as the vase and leaves are, they are just stunning. When I first looked at your picture my eye went directly to the vase and I thought, "Wow!"

I'm going to search around today for some red branches similar to your's to put in my green vase!

I wouldn't put something that tall in the window - it blocks the view. Unless you don't like the view LOL!!

Hmmmm, I'm not a huge valance fan, although I do like to see fabric added to a kitchen. I recently took down my kitchen window treatments and went with the woven shades. Have you thought of that?

Tina - yes, I did think about a woven shade. I have a hinged door that leads out to the backyard where my table is. I have roller shades on the doors that we use at night for privacy.

Can I use a woven shade or something textured like that when there are completely different things on the doors right next to this area? I thought a valance, especially a fabric one, would not provide as much texture.
