momof4...

I did it because we have picky eaters. They each get a turn planning a meal they want. They have to do the shopping list for it ... make sure we have all the ingredients. For christams they all got their own potato peeler and an apron(smiles). If the others don't like it or want it they can have the substitute meal(PB&J) ... but they are "only allowed" one substitute meal per week. I have a menu posted so they can know the choices for the week. So they can plan their substitute meal accordingly. What do you hate more spaghetti or meatloaf ..We have a 3 week rotating menu. I change around every 3/4 months. So it doesn't get boring and eating the same things week after week.

My SS12 hates math but loves to bake and cook ... so I sneak math lessons into baking and cooking. We double recipes, we make 1/2 a recipe... we adjust accordingly as to how many are having dinner with us that night using portion control.

He and I butt heads all the time but if he asks to bake something we head right to the kitchen. He will make dinner at his mom's. Easy stuff like mac and cheese soup and sandwich. His mom sends him in the market by himself to do food shopping. Two years ago he was like laurels SS couldn't/wouldn't do anything for himself.

My SC have come a long way... we are a very structured home. But they are much happier and more content than they used to be.
